of his parents. Vincent was named for his grandfather文森特取名自他的祖父 and a brother who was stillborn exactly a year before his birth. He would later have two more brothers and three sisters.他下面还有两个弟弟和三个妹妹 His brother Theo,他的弟弟西奥 only four years younger,只比他小四岁 was one of his closest friends throughout his life. Van Gogh was interested in art from his childhood,梵高从小就对艺术感兴趣 and as a young man he became an art dealer. He soon became frustrated and resentful however, and was fired,但不久他变得沮丧愤懑 于是遭到解雇 after which he struggled to find a vocation. He tried being a teacher,他尝试过做教师 worked in a bookshop,在书店里工作 attempted to become a pastor, and spent time as a missionary. In 1880, at the age of 27 ,1880年 在梵高27岁时 Van Gogh attended art school西奥建议他可以尝试学习艺术 after his brother Theo suggested that he try his hand at it. As Van Gogh became serious about his drawing and painting,梵高对于素描和彩画逐渐变得认真起来 he continued to struggle他也一直挣扎于 in relationships with friends, family, and artists he worked with. He fell in love with his widowed cousin and proposed,他爱上了寡妇表亲并向其求婚 but was forcefully rejected. He fought with his father. He began working with his second cousin,他开始跟二表哥一起工作 a successful artist,那是一位成功的画家 but they soon had a falling out但不久两人吵了一架 and the cousin stopped replying to Van Gogh’s letters. It was Theo who lent Vincent the money to buy his first oil paints,最早借钱给文森特买油彩的是西奥 which sparked a new period of productivity. Van Gogh began to produce hundreds of paintings, mostly dark and serious. By 1885 he began to attract interest from art dealers,至1885年 其作品开始受到商人关注 but his work was so unlike the bright paintings of other Impressionists但其风格与明朗的印象派画作大相径庭 that it did not sell. He then moved to Belgium to continue his study of art,之后他去了比利时 enrolling in the Academy of Fine Arts there进入高等艺术学院继续深造 and spending time in museums. Due to both his unconventional painting style and his temper,由于作品画风清奇加上他古怪的脾气 Van Gogh fought with the teachers at the Academy梵高曾与学院的导师也起过争执 and soon moved to Paris to stay with Theo. He stayed there for less than a year however. As Theo found living with Van Gogh “almost unbearable,”虽然西奥觉得和他一起生活简直无法忍受 but by 1887 Vincent moved out and the brothers were at peace again. Paris is where Vincent Van Gogh began to add color to his paintings,在巴黎生活时 其画作开始有不同的色彩 experimenting with Japanese-style paintings and pointillism,尝试了日本风格的绘画和点绘 but he did not stay there long. In 1888, feeling worn out and sick,1888年 他感到疲惫不堪 he moved to Arles in the south of France. This is where many of his most famous paintings were made. Once in Arles he invited his friend,在阿尔勒时 有一次他邀请一位朋友 French painter Paul Gauguin,法国画家保罗•高更 to stay with him. The two artists worked together for a short time,这两位艺术家合作了短暂的一段时间 but their personalities clashed, causing quarrels. When Gauguin decided to leave,当高更决定离去时 Van Gogh threatened him with a razor,梵高用剃刀威胁了他 which he then used to cut off part of his own ear. He was diagnosed with mania and delirium,他被症断出有狂躁症与精神错乱 and spent two weeks in the hospital. Soon afterwards he entered an asylum,不久他便进入了疯人院 where he spent the next year of his life.而在那里度过了一年 Despite his confinement,尽管被禁足于疯人院 he continued to paint, creating some of his greatest works during this time. Near the beginning of 1890, Vincent Van Gogh’s painting began to attract more attention.1890年初 文森特·梵高画作开始引起更多关注 His work was praised in a literary magazine其作品受到文学杂志称赞 and he was invited to participate in exhibitions. In May of that year he left the asylum,同年5月 他离开了疯人院 moving to the outskirts of Paris to be close to Theo again,移居到巴黎市郊 再次与西奥住得近一点 and he seemed re-energized,他似乎重新恢复了活力 with fresh enthusiasm for his work. Sadly, it would not last. On July 27, 1890, Van Gogh was shot.1890年7月27日 梵高受到枪杀 Although it is most widely believed that he shot himself in an attempt to commit suicide,虽然普遍认为他是试图自杀而枪击自己 some argue that he was hit accidentally by boys playing with a gun,但也有说他是被玩枪的男孩们偶然间击中 and he did not want them to be punished. This would explain something he said on his deathbed:这就可以解释他在死前说的: “Do not accuse anyone…it is I who wanted to kill myself.”“不要归咎于任何人…… Whether by his own hand or another’s,无论是自杀还是他杀 Vincent Van Gogh died on July 29th, 1890,文森特•梵高于1890年7月29日 at the age of 37. He left behind more than two thousand completed artworks,他留下了两千多件已完成的画作 including over 800 oil paintings,其中八百余幅为油画作品 most of which were done in the last two years of his life. His distinctive style makes his work unmistakable,他独特的风格使其作品辨识度极高 and his experimentation with color and line helped push art in new directions,他对色彩线条的试验推动了艺术的新发展 directly influencing the development of Expressionism. He did not live to see it,虽然他生前不太出名 but today Vincent van Gogh is one of the most famous painters in history. His paintings that no one wanted to buy are now worth millions of dollars,无人问津之作 现在都价值百万美金 and include some of the most widely recognized paintings in the • 2021-08-24免疫系统Our body has a powerful army我们体内有一支强大的军队 that protects it from various types of threats. These threats can come in the form of mechanical injuries,这些威胁包括机械性损伤 the entry of germs,细菌入侵 or the entry of other foreign particles like dust. This personal army is called the immune system. ABC》 Every day, we encounter a huge number of bacteria,每天我们都会遇到大量细菌 viruses and other disease-causing organisms. However, we don’t fall ill every other day.但是 我们不会每天都生病 which is due to our immune system-这要归功于我们的免疫系统—— an army of cells that is always roaming our body,一支时刻在我们体内巡逻的细胞军队 ready to ward off any attack. The immune system can be broadly divided into two parts免疫系统大致可以分为两部分 innate and adaptive immunity.固有免疫和适应性免疫 Innate immunity or non-specific immunity固有免疫 或称非特异性免疫 is the body’s first natural defense to any intruder. This system doesn’t care what it’s killing. Its primary goal is to prevent any intruder from entering the body,它的首要目标是避免任何入侵者进入体内 and if it does enter,一旦侵入体内 then the immune system neutralize this intruder. It doesn’t differentiate between one pathogen and another. The first component of this defensive system is your skin. Any organism trying to get into the body is stopped by the skin,它会阻止所有试图进入身体的生物 our largest organ, which covers us. Secondly, there is the mucous lining of all our organs. The sticky, viscous fluid traps any pathogens trying to get past it. These are the two physical barriers. However, we also have chemical barriers,然而我们还有化学屏障 such as the lysozyme in the eyes, or the acid in the stomach,比如眼睛里的溶菌酶 还有胃里的胃酸 which kill pathogens trying to gain entry. The genitourinary tract and other places泌尿生殖道和其他地方 have their own normal flora, or microbial community. These compete with pathogens for space and food,它们与病原体争夺空间和食物 and therefore also act as a barrier. The next line of defense is inflammation,下一道防线是炎症 which is done by mast cells. These cells are constantly searching for suspicious objects in the body. When they find something, they release a signal in the form of histamine molecules.找到后 它们会释放组胺分子作为信号 These alert the body,这会让身体警觉 and blood is rushed to the problem area. This causes inflammation and also brings leukocytes, or white blood cells,这会导致炎症 还会带来白血球 或称白细胞 which are soldiers in our body’s cellular army. Once they come, all hell breaks loose! Sometimes however, the intruder may not be germ,但是有时入侵者可能不是细菌 but rather a harmless thing like a dust particle. The body still causes a full immune reaction to this intruder,人体还是会对它产生完全的免疫反应 which is how allergic reactions occur. In the fortress of our body, the leukocytes are VIPs. VIP They have an all-access pass to the body,它们拥有通往全身的权限 except, of course, to the brain and spinal cord. Our leukocytes come in many types. Those that belong to the innate system are the phagocytes. These cells can either patrol your body, like the neutrophils,这些细胞能在体内巡逻 比如中性粒细胞 or they can stay in certain places and wait for their cue. Neutrophils are the most abundant cells. They patrol the body and can therefore get to a breach site very quickly. These cellular soldiers kill the infectious cell and then die,这些细胞士兵杀死感染细胞后死亡 which leads to pus formation. There are also the big bad wolves, or the macrophages. These cells are like hungry, ravenous monsters这些细胞就如饥饿贪婪的怪物一般 who simply engulf unwanted pathogens. Instead of roaming freely in our blood,它们会在特定区域聚集 they are collected in certain places. These cells can consume about 100 pathogens before they die,这些细胞在死前可以消灭大约100个病原体 but they can also detect our own cells that have gone rogue,但它们也可以识别病变的细胞 such as cancer cells, and kill them too. Beyond that, we also have the Natural Killer Cells. (NKC) These cells can efficiently detect when our own cells have gone rogue,这些细胞可以高效地识别病变的 or are infected with, say, a virus. NKCs detect a protein produced by normal cells,NKC会识别正常细胞合成的一种蛋白质 called the Major Histocompatibility Complex or MHC.叫做主要组织相容性复合体或MHC Basically, whenever a cell isn’t normal,一般来说 细胞一旦发生异常 it stops producing this protein.就会停止合成这种蛋白质 The NKCs move around constantly,NKC会不断地移动 checking our cells for this type of deficiency,来检查细胞是否有这种蛋白质缺失 and when they find an abnormal cell,在找到异常细胞后 they simply bind to it and release chemicals that will destroy it. The last cells of our innate immune system are the dendritic cells. These are found in places that come in contact with the outside environment,它们分布于与外界环境相连通的地方 such as the nose, lungs, etc. They are the link between our innate and adaptive immune systems.它们是固有免疫与适应性免疫系统之间的纽带 They eat a pathogen,它们吞噬病原体 and then carry information about it to our adaptive immune system cells. This information is produced and shared in the form of antigens. Antigens are the traces that pathogens leave around. They are molecules found on the surface on pathogens它们是位于病原体表面的分子 that can be detected by our adaptive immune system for recognition. The dendritic cells pass on this information to our T cells. However, macrophages can also perform this function. Now, there is also the adaptive or acquired immune system. This system is more efficient,这个系统更加高效 as it can differentiate between different types of pathogens. It has 2 main components – T lymphocytes and B lymphocytes. T-cells come into play when an infection has already occurred,T细胞在感染发生后才会介入 thus bringing about the cell-mediated immune response. B-cells join the fight when the pathogens have entered,B细胞会在病原体进入人体 but haven’t yet caused any disease. This is called the humoral immune response. Some T-cells take signals from the dendritic cells or macrophages,有些T细胞会接收树突状细胞或巨噬细胞的信号 and are thus called helper T-cells. They perform two key tasks:它有两个关键任务: forming effector T-cells, which are basically cells that cycle through the body形成效应T细胞 在体内循环 and call in the cavalry, namely other white blood cells.并且呼叫“骑兵” 即其他白细胞 Helper T-cells also form memory T-cells,辅助T细胞还会形成记忆T细胞 which keep a record of this antigen for future reference. Sometimes, some cells of our body know that they have lost the battle. They have become heavily infected with pathogens,它们被病原体严重感染了 so there is no hope for them. At this point, the immune system brings out the cytotoxic t cells. These cells rush over and perform a mercy killing for the infected and dying cell. Furthermore, we have the B-cells.此外 我们还有B细胞 They produce chemicals called antibodies,它们会产生名为抗体的化学物质 which fit on the antigens of pathogens,抗体与病原体的抗原相结合 much like how a lock and key fit together. These antibodies crowd around a pathogen and act like tags,这些抗体会在病原体上聚集 并作为标签 They signal the macrophages to come and kill the marked pathogen. B-cells also produce memory B-cells when they encounter an antigen.B细胞遇到抗原时也会产生记忆B细胞 The B- and T- memory cells jointly maintain a record of all encountered infections,记忆B T细胞对所有遭遇过的感染都有记忆功能 and thus strengthen and solidify the body’s immune response to these infections in the future. Our innate response is quicker, though non-specific. It gets into action within hours and is pretty strong. However, when things get out of hand,然而 当情况失控时 the innate system calls for help from the acquired immune system. This system can take days to mount a response,这个系统要花几天才能做出应答 but the next time we encounter that pathogen,但是下次遇到这个病原体 it won’t make us get sick. In short, every day that we spend being healthy总之 我们能健康地度过每一天 is all thanks to our immune system. So, it definitely deserves our respect.

Let’s find out on today’s episode of Colossal Questions. Here’s what would happen if you decided today下面我们就来讲讲如果你今天决定 that you were never going to shower again. Well, for starters you’d stink. This one is pretty obvious, right? Dead skin, dirt, and all kinds of bacteria死皮 污垢 各种细菌 would slowly build up all over your body causing an obnoxious odor. Is that not gross enough to get you in the shower? Well, how about brown clumps that would start growing on your skin? That’s right,没错 dirt, dust or other disgusting microbes污垢 灰尘或者恶心的微生物 would slowly start to collect on your skin, causing brown growths. It’s most likely to happen on parts of the body that produce the most natural oils. Your armpits, neck, head, and behind the ears. Dead skin wouldn’t just build up on your body,不仅你的身上会出现死皮 your scalp would have all sorts of problems too. We call dead skin that collects on the scalp dandruff. It’s a pretty common problem即便是在经常洗澡的人身上 even for people who shower regularly. And it causes your head to itch. But if you stopped showering altogether,如果你再也不洗澡 well, your dandruff would go into overdrive. Your hair would get oily and dirty你的头发会又油又脏 and would start to look matted and full of knots看上去乱糟糟的 到处打结 like unintentional dreadlocks就好像无意中留了拉斯特法里派的骇人发型 As if that wasn’t bad enough,好像这些还不够糟糕似的 the skin on your face would have the worst acne attack of all time,你的脸会得有史以来最严重的痤疮 giving you terrible pimples and pus bumps from all the oil buildup. But if just being really, really gross isn’t enough to keep you showering,如果就算变得非常恶心 你也不想定期洗澡 what about the effect it has on your health? That’s right, showers don’t just keep you looking and smelling nice,没错 洗澡不仅能让你精神抖擞 芳香四溢 they also keep you healthy. We’re all taught that if you get a little scrape or cut it’s best to wash it off,我们都被教过 如果有小的擦伤或割伤 最好在水下冲洗 that’s because dirt and bacteria can cause an infection. But if you never showered then a small cut is way more likely to get infected但如果你从不洗澡 小伤口更可能受感染而变严重 because of all the extra bacteria crawling around on your skin. So while it might be annoying to have a bath or shower regularly,所以 尽管定期沐浴很麻烦 it’s way less annoying than losing a limb to infection. And now you know what would happen if you never shower again? Comment below if you have a question you’d like to know the answer too如果你有问题 请在下方留言 and don’t forget to subscribe for more episodes of也不要忘了订阅后续的 Colossal Questions.《重大问题》 Only on Dream Works TV梦工厂TV独家冠名
Hey friends, I’m not feeling too well today. I think I have a cold… Well, I guess it is a good time to tell you about what causes cold我觉得这是个好机会来告诉你们感冒 and many other such diseases. 对不起 And that’s why,… We’ll talk about Virus! ZooZoooo..ZOOOOOMINNNNN! You know that a bacterium is a very tiny organism, right? Well, a virus is so small,不过 病毒更小 that its invisible to even a bacterium. This is how it is able to infect the tiny bacterium这就是为什么它能够感染微小的细菌 and the cells in our bodies. Unlike the bacterium, the virus has no cytoplasm.与细菌不同 病毒没有细胞质 Or a nucleus或细胞核 or anything resembling a cell. It has a very basic structure of the DNA它有一个非常基本的DNA结构 covered by an outer protein shell and some fats. That’s why viruses can’t even be considered organisms at all. They are not actually living. They float around like debris in space它们像太空中的碎片一样四处飘浮 waiting to contact a host. And only once they enter a host,只有进入宿主体内 can they reproduce! This is where the true terror of Viruses is seen!这就是病毒的真正可怕之处! once inside,一旦进入宿主体内 these little fellas hijack the cells of the organism这些小家伙就会通过从细胞膜进入 by entering through the cell membrane.来劫持宿主细胞 Once they do,一旦它们这样做了 the virus takes over the protein building structures of the host cell.病毒就接管了组成宿主细胞结构的蛋白质 and forces them to replicate the virus instead.迫使宿主细胞转而复制病毒 The poor cell unknowingly可怜的细胞不知不觉地 begins manufacturing an army of the virus till the entire is infected! This poor mindless slave cell does this till it explodes. Releasing all the virus to infect the nearby cells. And that’s how an infection spreads. That’s why I got sick.这就是为什么我会生病 But don’t worry,但是别担心 your bodies are super smart说到拯救你自己 when it comes to saving you. Every time we fall ill with a virus,..每次我们感染病毒生病的时候 ..the body makes a special cell身体会产生一种特殊的细胞 called a Memory Cell. This cell stores all the information about the virus这种细胞储存关于病毒的所有信息 and how it was defeated…以及它是如何被击败的 ..so that the next time the virus attacks,所以下次病毒攻击时 your body’s defense is ready to destroy it! TRIVIA TIME! Did you know that even antibiotics你知道即使抗生素 don’t work on viruses? Because antibiotics are designed to fight bacteria! In our body, the most common viruses在我们的身体中 最常见的病毒 are actually bacteriophages…事实上是噬菌体 ..that infect and destroy bacteria! I think I have a cold again. Well kids, before I go,..好吧 孩子们 在我走之前 ..what’s the common virus in our body that destroys bacteria? And here’s hoping i feel better soon. So that I can keep bringing you such fun这样我才能一直给你们带来那么多的乐趣 and interesting… Until next time, this is me zoooming out! Hey kids, you liked my videos didn’t you?嗨 小伙伴 你们喜欢我的视频 对吧 Before you go,在你走之前 don’t forget to click on the subscribe button and the bell. So you won’t miss out on my latest videos.

你正在观看《基础校园》 The American bison, commonly called the buffalo, 北美野牛通称野牛 is the largest mammal in North America. You can tell they are mammals 你可以看出它们是哺乳动物 because they are covered in fur, breathe air, 因为它们身上覆盖着皮毛 呼吸着空气 and they feed their babies milk. Although not as tall as moose, 虽然没有驼鹿那么高 bison are both longer and heavier, 但野牛既长又重 with males reaching lengths up to eleven and a half feet公牛身长可达11.5英尺 or 3.5 meters 合3.5米 and weights of up to 1600 pounds重量可达1600磅 or 730 kilograms. 合730公斤 Bison are herbivores, 野牛是食草动物 which means they eat plants. They live on plains and prairies它们生活在平原草甸 because they mostly graze on grasses, 主要吃上面的牧草 but they will also eat weeds and leafy plants,但也吃杂草和多叶植物 and browse on shrubs and twigs. To fuel their huge bodies,为了给庞大的身躯提供燃料 bison need to forage for food for 9 to 11 hours every day. Just like cows, bison are ruminants,和奶牛一样 野牛也是反刍动物 which means their stomachs have four compartments. These special stomachs help them 这些特殊的胃帮它们 to break down the grass and plants they eat. They may look like cows grazing in a field,它们可能看起来像在草地上吃草的奶牛 but don’t let them fool you –但别被骗了—— bison are wild animals,野牛是野生动物 powerful and dangerous. Both male and female bison have short, curved horns,公野牛和母野牛都有短而弯曲的角 large heads, and heavy shoulders. They can swim rivers more than half a mile 它们可以游过半英里 or 1 kilometer wide, 合一公里宽的河 run at speeds of up to 40 miles时速能达到40英里 or 64 kilometers per hour, 合64公里 and jump 6 feet 能跳6英尺 or 1.8 meters up in the air. In the spring and summer,在春夏两季 the bison come together and form large herds野牛们会聚集在一起 with hundreds or even thousands of members. It is in these herds that the baby bison,就在这些牛群中 known as calves, are born. This little calf has just been born 这只小牛犊刚出生 and is wobbly on its legs, 走路摇摇晃晃的 but before long但过不了多久 it will be running along with the rest of the herd. Newborn calves are a light reddish-tan color. They will not turn the darker brown of their parents 它们要变成父母那样的深棕色 for more than two months.还需要两个多月 In the winter在冬天 bison break up into small groups of about 20 animals野牛群会分成20只左右的小群 because it is more difficult to find food in the snow. Bison use their big heads and strong shoulders野牛们会用大脑袋和强壮的肩膀 to push snow out of the way把雪推开 like a shovel to reach the grass below. Their thick winter coats help them to survive freezing temperatures它们厚厚的冬衣能帮它们 that other animals cannot stand.在其他动物无法忍受的严寒中生存下来 Bison once roamed North America in herds北美野牛曾成群在北美游荡 numbering in the millions. It’s estimated that there were about 60 million bison before the year 1800. Just 100 years later, in the year 1900,但就在100年前 1900年 there were only 300 bison left. As settlers moved west,随着移民西迁 they hunted and killed millions of bison, 他们猎杀了数百万头野牛 as many as they could shoot. The settlers wanted to clear the huge herds off the plains移民们想把大群的牛群赶出平原 so that they would have room for farms and cattle. Bison fur and leather could be sold for a lot of money,野牛皮和皮革可以卖很多钱 and even their bones could be sold as fertilizer. There was another reason to kill the bison, too:还有另一个猎杀野牛的原因: the United States government wanted 美国政府希望 Plains Indians living on the Great Plains to move to reservations 生活在大平原的大平原印第安人搬到居留地去 so there would be more room for the settlers. The tribes that depended on bison to survive如果牛群都消失了 would not be able to stay if the herds were gone. 不幸的是 这个计划起效了 By the year 1905, 到了1905年 worried that bison would go completely extinct,人们担心野牛彻底灭绝 conservationists including Theodore Roosevelt包括西奥多·罗斯福在内的环保主义者 founded the American Bison Society to protect创立了美国野牛协会来保护 and preserve these huge animals. Today, thanks to more than 100 years of conservation efforts,今天 由于100多年的保护努力 American bison populations have increased美洲野牛的数量 from 300 to more than 500,000 animals,从300到现在超过500000只 and it has been named the national mammal of the United States. I hope you enjoyed learning about the American bison today.

When she will put this ring on her night stand, and fall asleep, she would wake back up in the castle当她把这个戒指放在床头时 入睡后 她在城堡中醒来 The next morning, she woke up in her own bed in her father’s house第二天早上 她就在父亲的家中自己的床上醒来 she ran to her father at once她立刻跑向她的父亲 When her father saw her, he was so happy that he felt better当她的父亲看见她的时候 父亲感到非常开心 以至于他感到病都好些了 In the afternoon, beauty’s sisters who recently got married came to visit their father中午的时候 最近刚结婚了的姐姐们回来看望她们的父亲 When they found Beauty at home, they were furious with envy and anger当她们发现美女在家里时 她们非常嫉妒和愤怒 and they decided to play a little trick on her于是她们策划了一个邪恶的计谋 Let’s make her stay here one more week, then the Beast will come and kill her我们来让她呆在这里超过一个礼拜 然后野兽就会回来 杀了她 The two sisters came next to Beauty crying于是这两个姐妹来到美女旁边开始哭泣 and told her that they didn’t want to be apart并告诉美女 她们并不想与美女分开 Beauty promised to stay one more week美女就答应多留一会 Not long after, Beauty realised that she missed Beast不久后 美女意识到她开始想念野兽 One day, she saw a dream where Beast was lifeless on the ground in the gardens castle一天 她做了一个梦 梦见野兽毫无生气的倒在城堡花园中的地上 She woke up in a sweat她醒来时满身是汗 What I’m doing is cruel and selfish我这么做真是太残忍 自私了啊 So she immediately took the ring out of her finger, put it on the nightstand beside her所以她立刻从她的手上取下戒指 把戒指放在她旁边的床头上 And she woke up in the Beast’s castle in the morning于是 第二天早晨她在野兽的城堡中醒来 She waited for the Beast all day long, but he was nowhere to be seen她等了野兽整整一天 然而野兽并没出现在任何地方 She waited for hours and hours她等了一个小时又一个小时 But Beast did not come但是野兽始终没来 Suddenly, she remembered her dream and ran to the garden突然间 她想到了她的梦 然后跑向花园 Beast was lying down, lifeless on the ground野兽躺在那里 毫无生气的躺在地上 Just like she saw him in her dream就像她在梦中看到的野兽一样 Beauty ran next to him and hugged him美女跑到野兽的身边 拥抱住他 Beast’s heart was still beating野兽的心跳仍在跳动着 He could barely open his eyes野兽微弱的睁开他的眼睛 and he spoke with great difficulty然后艰难的说 I thought you weren’t coming back“我以为你再也不会回来了” But I love you and I want to marry you“我爱你 我还想要嫁给你” At that instant, something magical happened一瞬间 奇迹发生了 Suddenly突然 the castle became brighter and more beautiful城堡变得更加明亮 更加美丽 Beauty looked around, stunned, and then美女看向周围 震惊了 she turned her head back to the Beast然后她又回头看向了野兽 But where the ugly Beast was lying但是躺在这里丑陋的野兽不见了 now there was a young and handsome prince现在变成了一个年轻帅气的王子 When she saw him, Beauty started to cry当美女看向他是 开始哭泣 Who are you, and where does the Beast go“你是谁 野兽去了哪里” Oh, don’t be afraid“哦 你别害怕” Prince stood up and started to tell王子站了起来 开始说 I’m the Beast, an evil which put a spell on me“我就是野兽 魔鬼给我下了咒语” turned me into that wretched form“把我变成了那个可怜的形象” If it were not for your love, that you would marry me“如果没有你的爱 你说你要嫁给我” If it were not for your love, I would have been a beast forever“如果没有你的爱 我将会永远成为野兽” When she heard this, Beauty was very happy当美女听到这些的时候 美女很高兴 with her good heart, she found true love她凭着她的善良 找到了真爱 Beauty and the prince got married, and lived happily ever after美女与王子结婚了 然后一直快乐的生活着 The End剧终 If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands如果感到快乐 你就拍拍手 If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands如果感到快乐 你就拍拍手 If you’re happy and you know it, and you really want to show如果感到快乐 你想表达出来啊 If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands如果感到快乐 你就拍拍手 If you’re happy and you know it, stomp your feet如果感到快乐 你就跺跺脚 If you’re happy and you know it, stomp your feet如果感到快乐 你就跺跺脚 If you’re happy and you know it, and you really want to show如果感到快乐 你想表达出来啊 If you’re happy and you know it, stomp your feet如果感到快乐 你就跺跺脚 If you’re happy and you know it, shout hurray如果感到快乐 你就喊万岁!

Baby walkers do not help babies walk. Blair Hammond: “Picking up a crying baby will spoil them.”“抱起正在哭闹的宝宝会宠坏他们” Pressman: Picking up a crying baby will not spoil them. Hammond: “Putting honey on a dummy,”“给宝宝用涂了蜂蜜的假奶嘴” aka a pacifier, “will help with teething.” This is a dangerous myth, actually. I get paged about this myth all the time. 大家好 I’m Dr. Blair Hammond. I’m a general pediatrician at Mount Sinai Hospital. Pressman: And I’m Dr. Aliza Pressman. I’m a developmental psychologist我是一名发展心理学家 and cofounder of the Mount Sinai Parenting Center. Hammond: The other. We did it together. Today we’re going to be actually talking about今天我们的节目内容是 debunking myths with babies. Aliza? Pressman: Let’s do it.来吧 Hammond: All right!好的 First myth. Pressman: “Babies who walk and talk early”早走路 早开口说话的宝宝 are the brightest of their peer group.” Even though an early talker may tend to do better虽然早开口说话的宝宝日后的语言能力 in language skills later in life,会更强一些 it doesn’t mean that children who are not early talkers但这并不意味着说话较晚的宝宝 aren’t going to equal or rise above those talkers. And with walkers, which is a different thing,走路的早与迟又是另一回事 that’s motor development. Motor development is better at predicting delays运动发育能更好地预测发育迟缓 and associations with other issues that may arise. So if you notice there’s a delay in walking,所以 如果你发现宝宝走路时间晚 that’s an important thing to talk to your pediatrician about. But it is not necessarily true or likely true不过 早走路就能让你考上哈佛的说法 that an early walker is going to get you into Harvard. Hammond: “Never wake a sleeping baby.”“永远不要叫醒熟睡的宝宝” And this is a myth 这是错误的 in particular in the first few weeks of life. So, newborn babies really need to feed frequently,你真的需要经常给新生儿喂奶 and if you happen to have a sleepy baby,假如你的宝宝很爱睡觉 you would actually wake them在他出生后的前几周 every three to four hours to feed at that time. Between five and six weeks of age,宝宝在五到六周的时候 day and night sleep is organized. So if they’re sleeping more than three,所以 如果他们白天的睡觉时间超过三小时 three and a half hours during the day, at that point,或者三个半小时 在这个时候 you really want to give them a little nudge你真的要把他们叫醒 so that you can get them nice, consolidated sleep in the nighttime. Hammond: As children get older,等宝宝们长大一点了 you can let them sleep longer periods of time.你可以让他们睡得久一些 Pressman: “Lullabies help babies sleep.”“摇篮曲帮助宝宝入睡” [laughs][笑声] This one is actually事实上 sort of a myth, but not completely,它算是一个错误观念 但也不完全是 because the act of singing a lullaby, that calming music,因为唱摇篮曲这种舒缓的音乐 can calm both you and your baby. But it isn’t a magic pill that is going to但摇篮曲并不是什么灵丹妙药 make sure that your baby falls asleep. Finding ways to soothe your infant,找到把宝宝哄睡的方法 especially using music and touch is, of course,特别是采用音乐和抚摸的方式 going to relax them and induce a sleepier state. Hammond: In young children and babies, naps are necessary. Hammond: I always say that people who are like,我常常说: “I’m gonna keep my baby up all day那些为了让宝宝睡整夜觉 so they sleep all night in that first year of life,”就不让宝宝午睡的人 you’re going to have an angry baby,你们会有一个易怒的宝宝 and that is not going to be a fun baby to take care of. And, in fact, in this young age,事实上 宝宝还小的时候 especially that first year of life,特别是出生后的第一年 we really do focus on naps我们要让他们睡午觉 to help your baby actually learn better, control their behavior,这样能帮助他们更好地学习 控制自己的行为 and fall asleep better. Because an overly tired baby因为太疲倦的宝宝 is actually going to sleep worse. Pressman: You really need to keep even one nap. You don’t want your infant or toddler awake你不会想让你的小婴儿或刚会走路的宝宝 more than about five hours at a time. So, up until three years of age,所以 三岁之前 naps are really important for午睡对宝宝白天的行为表现 daytime behavior, emotional development,情绪的发展 以及夜间规律而稳定的睡眠 and nighttime organized, consolidated sleep.都是非常重要的 “Babies should be sleeping through the night by three months.”“宝宝在三个月大的时候就应该睡整夜觉” Hammond: We all hope for that. Pressman: If your baby isn’t sleeping through the night如果你的宝宝夜间要喝一到两次奶 because they need to have a feeding所以不能睡整夜觉 or two feedings, that’s OK.这没关系的 Up until four months,在四个月之前 you really want to let your infant direct how that’s going to go. And then, starting after four months,之后 从宝宝满四个月开始 between four and six months, you can think about在四到六个月之间 your influence on their nighttime sleep. Hammond: And you might lose your friends如果你总是向朋友炫耀 if you keep bragging about your 3-month-old你家三个月的宝宝能睡整夜觉 who’s sleeping through the night and they have而她家三个月的宝宝却做不到 a 3-month-old who’s not. Oh, this is a good one. Pressman: “Certain toys will make babies smarter.”“有的玩具能让宝宝更聪明” Hammond: Right? Pressman: Myth. Pressman: The myth is that错误的是 it’s the toy making the baby smarter. What helps your baby grow smarter is the interaction让宝宝更聪明的是玩玩具的时候 between you and your baby while playing with a toy. If you just stick a baby down with a bunch of blocks,如果你只是给宝宝一堆积木 your baby is not growing smarter from those toys. The best way to grow your baby’s brain宝宝出生后的一年里 in that first year of life is through帮助他们大脑发育最好的方法 interaction with a caregiver,就是让他们和看护人一起互动 and you can then talk about the toy, describe the toy,你可以谈论这个玩具 描述一下它 support your infant’s discovery of the toy通过语言和描述 through language and descriptions,引导宝宝对玩具进行探索 but the toys itself are never going to make your baby smarter. Another thing to keep in mind另外你要记住 is that when you are playing with your baby,和宝宝一起玩耍的时候 you might find yourself using a singsong voice你会发现自己的声音像唱歌一般 with high-pitch sounds and, like, a big, exaggerated face. And some people might even think you’re talking baby talk. The truth is that that is called “parentese,”事实上这叫“父母语“ and it is one of the most important uses of language. When you use that voice and you say, like:当你用这种语调说话 比如: “[gasps] Look at that block you’re playing with![吸气]看看你玩的那块积木! Is that a brown block? Are you putting that on top of a blue block?” The important part of that is that重要的是 your language is so engaging你的语言非常迷人 that parentese actually is associated with such boosts所以父母语对孩子今后的语言发展 in language development later in life. Now, baby talk, where you’re saying当你对婴儿这样说: “goo goo gaa gaa goo goo gaa gaa,”“咕咕嘎嘎 咕咕嘎嘎” that is not useful for anyone,那对谁都是没用的 except if it gives you tremendous delight当这样的行为能给你带来巨大的快乐 and you just can’t help yourself and you really just你情不自禁想要这么做 need to just get in there with that baby. It’s your language and your interaction通过你的语言 你和宝宝之间的互动 and your use of parentese that’s gonna really还有你对父母语的运用 get you that boost in intellectual development才能达到你想从玩具中获得的那种 that you are hoping to get from the toy. Hammond: “Bouncing babies will cause them to be bowlegged.”“蹦蹦跳跳的宝宝腿会变弯” I hear this all the time. In fact, I have lots of parents say to me right after a baby’s born,事实上 很多父母在孩子刚出生时就对我说: “Oh, no, he’s bowlegged!”“噢 天啊 他的腿是弯的!” And the interesting thing 有趣的是 is it’s because when a baby is in the womb,这是因为宝宝在子宫里的时候 most babies actually have their legs crossed. So they come out a little bowed-looking,所以出生之后 他们看起来有点驼背 and it is normal for the legs to actually腿也是弯的 have that appearance. And many babies have that instinct很多宝宝天生就想站立 to want to stand and bear weight on their legs,想用腿来承受身体的重量 and that is actually fantastic for their motor development. You’re socially engaging with them,你和他们进行互动 but you’re also helping them也是在帮助他们 develop muscle strength and control. So this is absolutely a myth. Many grandparents are into it.祖父母们对这句话深信不疑 They’re also like,他们还会说: “Don’t let your baby sit till they’re ready,“没到时候别让你的宝宝直立地坐着 ’cause it’s gonna ruin their back.”因为这会损伤他们的背部” That is another myth. Pressman: I would only add: You don’t need a contraption. So, a jumper is not a good way to help a baby develop. Hammond: Yep. Because they go more on the toes,是的 因为他们主要靠脚趾头用力 and that’s something that’s not recommended所以大多数儿童发育专家 by most developmental specialists. If you’re feeling like your infant is excessively crying,如果你觉得你的宝宝哭得厉害 the first thing that you want to do你要做的第一件事 is talk to your pediatrician to make sure就是去找你的儿科医生 that there isn’t anything wrong medically. Hammond: You sort of do a one-over你让宝宝做一个全面检查 on your whole baby to make sure,确保他们身体没出问题 “All right, my baby seems OK, my baby’s fed,好了 宝宝看起来很好 他吃饱了 my baby’s peed and pooped,大小便也正常 whatever, what’s going on here?” And then often it’s just,通常来说 they’re so awake and frazzled,他们只是太疲惫了 又睡不着 they can’t calm their body down at this young age. The most fussy period is between three to six weeks of life. And there is something called infant colic,有一种现象叫婴儿肠绞痛 which people have probably heard about. And the definition of colic is crying at least three hours a day,肠绞痛的宝宝一天至少哭三个小时 at least three days of the week,一周至少有三天都会哭 for at least three weeks. A good thing I tell parents is if the baby calms down我要告诉父母们 如果你轻轻地摇晃宝宝 when you’re shaking them in a gentle rocking way,安抚他们 他们就会安静下来 shushing them, and you’re like,但是你说: “Oh, if I hold the baby, they stop crying,”噢 我抱着他 他就不哭 but every time I put them down, they cry.” That’s reassuring to me that there’s not 我听到这些话会感到安心 some real painful issue going on and that the baby is comforted by you因为宝宝没有身体不适 他得到了你的安抚 and just needs that help. In general, I say to people,我一般会对大家说 if the baby cries more than an hour straight如果宝宝连续哭一个小时以上 and nothing is calming them down,并且怎么做都不能使他们安静下来 check in with your pediatrician. Pressman: And you could be doing everything right可能你做了所有正确的事 and it’s not going to stop the baby from crying 但还是不能在短时间内让宝宝停止哭泣 in the short term, but again, 但我要再说一次 you will be helping their long-term development. Hammond: “Picking up a crying baby will spoil them.”“抱起哭闹的宝宝会把他们宠坏” Pressman: Picking up a crying baby will not spoil them. Hammond: People are often very worried about spoiling young infants. I say my job as a pediatrician作为一名儿科医生 is to help you fall in love with your baby. I want you to touch that baby. I want you to snuggle the baby. And the feeling a baby has当宝宝沮丧 哭泣 of being upset and crying and stressed,感到压力的时候 and then when they calm with you,你让他平静下来 that actually teaches their brain实际上教会了他们 to go from upset to calm,如何由沮丧变得平静 and that is a life skill. Now, as your child gets older,那么 当宝宝长大一点了 can you spoil a baby or a child who’s crying and saying,他哭着对你说:“我晚饭想吃棒棒糖” “I need lollipops for dinner”? Pressman: Yes, you can. Do not then just pick them up不能就这样把他抱起来 and give them the lollipop. That is a totally different thing. In these first months of life,在宝宝出生后的前几个月 comforting your baby and calming their body down你安抚他 使他平静下来 actually helps them be calmer humans long-term. 噢 “Putting honey on a dummy,”“给宝宝用涂了蜂蜜的假奶嘴” aka a pacifier, “will help with teething.” This is a dangerous myth, actually. Some myths are just like,有的错误观念 your friends are talking about that, don’t believe it. This one is actually dangerous. Babies should not have honey in the first year of life. And the risk of honey comes蜂蜜的危害来自于一种细菌 from a bacteria called botulism. The spores from botulism your body can process,你可以消化掉肉毒杆菌的孢子 but young infants cannot,但是小婴儿不能 and it can actually cause paralysis,肉毒杆菌中毒会使宝宝瘫痪 meaning a paralyzed, limp infant,也就是说宝宝会残疾 四肢无力 which could be quite dangerous,显然 肉毒杆菌中毒是十分危险的 life-threatening, obviously. No honey in the first year of life for any baby. It’s really something everyone should know. Baby walkers do not help babies walk. In fact, there are some small studies事实上 一些小型研究表明 that show that babies who use walkers用学步车的宝宝 walk later than the babies that do not use walkers. Do not get a walker,不要买学步车 because you want your baby’s muscles to develop因为你应该让宝宝的肌肉正常地发育 the way they’re supposed to, without contraptions. Hammond: The AAP, that’s the American Academy of Pediatrics,AAP 也就是美国儿科学会 recommends against walkers. No. 1, because they do delay walking.首先 学步车耽误宝宝走路 But No. 2,其次 because children can actually fall in walkers,坐在学步车里的宝宝可能会摔跤 fall down stairs in walkers,并随着学步车摔下楼梯 and have the ability to reach things有了学步车 宝宝能触碰到 that are developmentally inappropriate,危害身体健康的东西 like hot stoves, hot water. I’ve had many patients be like:有很多父母对我说: “Oh, my gosh, we put it on a registry.“天啊 我已经下单了” I feel so bad. I already got it.” “糟糕 我已经买了” Return it. I get paged about this myth all the time. People will say: “My baby has a 103 fever. It’s just ’cause they’re teething.”这是因为他们在长牙” That is a myth. Teething should not cause fevers. It might make your baby a little more fussy. It might make them eat a little less,他们会比平时吃得更少一些 but it should not cause fever. It should not cause cough. It should not cause runny nose, vomiting. All those things make me think your baby如果宝宝有这些症状 has some type of infection. So if you have a fever如果你的宝宝发烧了 and you’re concerned about the cause,你担心他发烧的原因 check in with your pediatrician. Pressman: “Babies need water when it’s hot.”“天热的时候 宝宝需要喝水” Hammond: This is certainly a myth,这当然是不对的 especially in the beginning of life. So, the first month of life,宝宝在出生后的一个月里 some parents and grandparents will say:有的父母和祖父母会说: “Your baby needs water.“天气太热了 It’s hot out.” Your baby should not be given water. We say breast milk or formula only for newborn babies. Their kidneys are actually immature,新生儿的肾脏还没发育成熟 and giving water could mess up their electrolytes给他们喝水会破坏他们体内的电解质 and be quite dangerous, in fact. As your child gets older, around six months of life,等宝宝长大一点 大概在六个月的时候 we do encourage you to introduce water for your child. But, in general, many people are under the impression, like,但是 人们脑海中都有这样的印象: “Oh, water is a better hydration fluid与母乳和配方奶相比 than breast milk or formula.” But actually breast milk and formula但事实上 母乳和配方奶对宝宝来说 are great for hydrating babies.是非常好的补水液体 “You should avoid giving peanuts, fish,“在宝宝会走路之前 and eggs to your child until they’re a toddler.” This was a big myth. Hammond: And, in fact, it used to be supported by the medical community,事实上 医学界曾经支持这种说法 but there now is really strong data但是现在我们有充分的数据证明 showing that actually earlier introduction早一点开始食用这些食物 increases what we call tolerance,能够增加我们的耐受性 meaning that you won’t have an allergic reaction. But there in fact is even an FDA recommendation事实上 甚至食品和药物管理局也建议 that infants between four to six months of life在宝宝四个月到六个月的时候 have peanut products introduced into their diet可以在他们的饮食中添加花生产品 because there is such compelling data因为有十分可信的数据证明 about the reduction in food allergy. I always say, speak with your pediatrician我总说 去问问儿科医生 about exactly how to start it要给宝宝喂什么食物 and if you have specific family risk factors. Again, I may emphasize the one food我要再强调一次 在宝宝一岁以前 you do not introduce: no honey till one year.绝对不能给他们吃蜂蜜这种食物 Pressman: “Playing classical music“给宝宝播放古典音乐 can make your baby smarter.” Playing classical music will be你能为宝宝做很多事 one of the many things that you can do,为他播放古典音乐是其中一件 certainly, to surround them with the kinds of当然 这些事能让宝宝拥有这种 stimulating auditory experiences刺激听觉的体验 that will engage their brain. However, playing classical music in and of itself然而 古典音乐本身 is not going to make your baby smarter.不会使你的宝宝更聪明 Hammond: Actually, the back-and-forth interactions实际上 在宝宝和看护者之间 that a baby has with a caregiver这种反复的互动中 where they hear real words宝宝听到了实实在在的语言 usually spoken in your native language这语言通常是你的母语 so that you can speak with most expression所以你说话的时候表情非常丰富 and you’re showing delight and responding to the baby,你表现出喜悦并回应宝宝 that is what promotes the language development这才最有利于宝宝的语言发展 and the social development of the brain the best.以及社交技能的发展 “A newborn’s length will tell you how tall they’ll be.”“通过新生儿的身高可以预测他们未来的身高” Lots of parents obsessively think about the growth chart. I sometimes obsessively think about my children’s growth chart. The biggest predictor of your child’s final height预测孩子最终身高最准确的方法 is actually parents’ height. So, we call something “mid-parental height”因此 我们所说的“父母身高预测法” as the best predictor. And another big predictor is when the baby,另一种准确的预测方法 the child, goes through puberty. So, usually the longer you delay puberty,所以 通常青春期延迟的时间越长 the more years of growth you have. So, there are some children who are short in seventh grade,所以 有的孩子在七年级的时候很矮 but they keep growing,但他们一直在生长 and they’re still growing in 11th and 12th grade,到十一和十二年级的时候 他们还在长 and then they catch up and surpass their peers. So, it gives you an idea. It is certainly not the predictor of your child’s long-term length. Pressman: You’re gonna hear many myths and many things你会听到很多错误观念 很多东西 that are gonna make you question your own parenting. What we would emphasize is,我们要强调的是 try to think about your gut, what makes you feel good,想想你的直觉以及让你感觉良好的育儿方式 because a parent who feels good and empowered因为感觉良好 感到自己充满力量的父母 is going to have better interactions with their baby. And if you do have any questions,如果你有疑问 rather than thinking about the myths that are out there,与其参考那些错误的观念 seek advice from very reliable and valid resources. Go to your pediatrician with any questions你可以问儿科医生任何问题 or find the websites that are actually valid and reliable,或者去寻找有效 可靠的网站 and never do Google searches千万不要去谷歌上随意搜索 arbitrarily or look at chat rooms.也不要去聊天室找答案 Hammond: And, again, pediatricians,还有 我要再说一遍 we go into this field because我们儿科医生进入到这个领域 we like to partner with parents to making sure就是想要和父母一起合作 all children are as healthy as possible. So bring your questions to the doctor.
You’re watching FreeSchool! Plants are living organisms. They come in many different shapes, sizes, and colors,它们形状 大小 颜色各异 but they all need air, water, nutrients, and sunlight to live. Plants cover much of our planet. Every blade of grass, tree, flower, bush, fern, or moss you see is a plant.你看到的每一片草 树 花 灌木 蕨类或苔藓都是植物 Large or small不论它们是大是小 on the land or in the sea在陆地还是海里 from forests to deserts从森林到沙漠 plants are almost everywhere植物无处不在 Plants are so important to life on earth植物对地球上的生命非常重要 that without them, we could not survive. Plants create food from the sun’s energy,植物利用太阳能创造食物 and form the foundation of nearly every food chain on the planet并形成地球上几乎所有食物链的基础 . Plants produce the oxygen in the air we breathe, helping animals to stay alive. Plants also create important habitats where animals can live,植物还创造了重要的栖息地供动物居住 and provide humans with many natural resources. So what makes something a plant? Plants are special on the cellular level. They are always made of more than one cell 它们一般由多细胞组成 – meaning there are no single celled plants也就是说 它们不是单细胞植物 – and their cells have specal parts. One special part of a plant cell is the cell wall. Cell walls are rigid and unbending. Since plants do not have skeletons,因为植物没有骨架 these cell walls give them their structure.所以说 这些细胞壁组成了植物的结构 Without cell walls,如果没有细胞壁 tall trees, cactus高大的树木 仙人掌 and even little flowers would not be a ble to stand up! Many plants are easy to recognize by their green leaves许多植物的种类只需通过叶子即可辨认 – in fact, most plants are green, 事实上 大部分的植物都是绿色的 or have green parts. This green color is caused by another special part of their cells called chloroplasts. Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll, which is green. Chlorophyll is what allows plants to carry out photosynthesis叶绿素使植物能够进行光合作用 and make food from the sun’s energy.通过太阳能来制造它们的食物 During photosynthesis,在光合作用中 plants use the sun’s energy to change water and carbon dioxide植物利用太阳能将水和二氧化碳 into a kind of sugar. They use this sugar to grow and develop,植物利用这种糖生长 and store the extra in their leaves, roots, or fruits. In addition to sugar, plants produce oxygen during photosynthesis. Since plants do not need the oxygen,因为植物并不需要氧气 they release it into the atmosphere,于是它们将其释放到大气之中 where animls and people can breathe it in! Plants cannot move the same way that people or other animals do,植物无法像人类和其他动物那样移动 so they have to have special strategies to solve their problems.因此植物必须用特殊策略来解决这一问题 For example,例如 some plants cannot get enough nutrients from the soil they are growing in. The plants of eastern North American bogs有一种来自北美东部沼泽里的植物 have adapted to their nutrient-poor soils就是通过一种特殊途径—昆虫 by getting extra nutrition from an unusual source – insects. One of these carnivorous plants, the sundew,有一种食肉植物 茅膏菜 has sticky fluid coating special hairs. This fluid has a sweet smell that attracts insects. When an insect lands on the hair,当昆虫落在茅膏菜的毛发上时 however, it becomes stuck – trapped by the plant昆虫立即被粘住 落入茅膏菜的陷阱之中 and the fluid digests the prey,紧接着 茅膏菜的液体开始消化猎物 breaking it down into nutrients. Another kind of carnivorous plant is the pitcher plant. The ‘pitcher’ of the plant is a modified leaf that is watertight. The plant fills it with a combination of nectar猪笼草的“捕虫笼”里装有一种混合的花蜜 and digestive juices. The smell of the nectar and colors at the edge of the pitcher花蜜的味道和猪笼草边缘的颜色 attract insects and other small visitors,吸引着昆虫们和其他小型“观光者” but once inside一旦进入“捕虫笼” the prey find it too slippery to get out again猎物将发现由于内壁太滑自己无法再出来 and will fall into the pool at the bottom of the pitcher,它们将跌入猪笼草底部的消化池里 where they are digested. The most famous carnivorous plant is the Venus Flytrap. It has specialized leaves that act like the mouth of the plant. Like the other carnivorous plants,和其他食肉植物类似 its bait is sweetened nectar.它的诱饵也是甜甜的花蜜 Once prey climb onto the leaf,一旦猎物爬到捕蝇草的叶子上 they activate the trigger hairs which signal the plant to close its trap. Long guard hairs interlock across the top of the leaves,长长的防御毛在叶子顶部互锁 preventing escape 阻止猎物逃跑 and the prey is slowly digested. Unlike carnivorous plants, which are predators,不像食肉植物(它们是捕食者) most plants are prey for herbivores. They have developed strategies to help protect them from being eaten. One popular strategy plants like to use植物们喜欢用的一种流行策略是 is to grow thorns, spines, or prickles. The cactus is famous for its sharp spines. Most cacti live in the desert,大部分仙人掌生长于沙漠中 where water is a scarce and precious resource. Cacti store water in their thick, waxy stems. To prevent animals from consuming their carefully collected resources为了防止动物消耗它们辛苦收集来的资源 they grow sharp spines 它们长出尖刺 which deter all尖刺阻止了几乎所有动物 but the hungriest or most cautious of animals. A plant with another interesting defense is the sensitive plant. When its leaves are touched, they close up. This makes the leaves look dead, or wilted这让这些植物看起来像死掉或枯萎了一样 and may send a hungry herbivore并且可能会打发那些饥饿的食草动物 searching for a more tasty-looking lunch.转去搜寻看起来更加美味的午餐 Finally, a popular plant defense strategy最后一个流行的防御策略是 is to use chemicals to protect themselves. Some plants just use chemicals to give their leaves a bitter taste. Other plants have chemicals on them that can make us itchy! Still other plants are poisonous,还有些植物是有毒的 making animals that eat them get sick or even die. Animals learn not to eat these poisonous plants动物已经学会不去吃这些有毒的植物 and the plants can then grow undisturbed. One more problem that plants have to solve is the problem植物不得不解决的另一个问题是 of how to get their seeds away from them. Plants do not want their seeds to grow right next to them,植物不想让种子长在自己旁边 because then they would be competing for the same resources. Some plants use the wind to spread their seeds. Some plants that live near water一些植物生长在靠近水的地方 have seeds that can float, and let the water carry their seeds away. A popular method plants use to spread their seeds有一种 植物传播种子 的流行方式 is to have animals carry them away.是让动物带它们离开 Some seeds, called burs,一些称作刺果的种子 grow with hooks on their outsides. These hooks get caught on the fur of passing animals这些钩子会钩在路过的动物的毛发上 and are carried away to new areas. Other plants grow their seeds inside fruits or berries. Animals eat the fruit and it is digested,动物吃掉果实 果实被消化 but the seeds pass through unharmed但种子完好地穿过身体 and are dropped far away from the parent plant. Still other seeds, like acorns,还有些像橡子类的其他种子 are collected by animals that bury them. Not all of these buried seeds get eaten,埋下的种子并没有被全部吃掉 leaving some to grow into new trees. Some plants, however, take matters into their own hands然而 有些植物靠自己传播种子 or seed pods, that is.就像种子荚 When touched or tapped,当被触碰或是轻拍时 the fruit of the exploding cucumber splits open forcefully, 爆炸瓜的果实激烈爆开 spreading its seeds in one burst. On the land or in the sea,无论在陆地上还是在海洋里 plants play a critical role in the continuation of life on earth. They make their own food from sunlight,它们从太阳能中制作自己的食物 converting it to food that animals can use. Plants produce oxygen for us to breathe植物为我们制造呼吸的氧气 and habitats for animals to live in. No matter where they grow,无论生长在哪儿 or what challenges they face,或是遇到什么挑战 plants have learned how to get enough nutrients, 植物已经学会了如何去获取足够的营养 protect themselves from hungry animals,如何远离饥饿的动物 and spread their seeds around. I hope this helped you learn more about plants today.
  • 2021-08-24地震是什么You’re laughing, right? Watching me tumble like that? Are you? Oh! No no, go ahead! But hey, do you know what just happened? There we go again! Well, this is nothing but an earthquake, a small one indeed. Come, let me tell you about Earthquakes today! The surface of the Earth is like a jigsaw puzzle. Yes, it’s not a single piece of land对哦 它可不只是一块简单的陆地 but approximately 20 pieces of a puzzle that constantly move,而是由大约20块不断移动的“拼图”所构成的 but you don’t feel it because they move quite slowly. Each of one those puzzle pieces are called ‘Tectonic Plates’. So whenever those plates hit, bump or slide past another plate,所以每当这些板块相互碰撞 颠簸或相对滑动时 an earthquake is caused! The surface where these plates slip is called the Fault or the Fault plane. So when do you think it happens? Well, it happens all the time! But hey, don’t be scared. Most of the times, we don’t feel the quakes大多数时候 我们感觉不到地震 as they are too small to reach us. But sometimes, they are so strong不过有时候 震感会很强烈 that they can be felt over 1000 miles away. The place where the earthquake originates is called the Hypocentre,地震产生的源头叫做“震源” and the place where it occurs on the Earth’s surfac而在地球表面发生地震的地方 is called the Epicenter. There are three types of Earthquakes. Here, one plate is forced over another during an earthquake,这种情况下 一个板块在地震时受迫抬高到另一板块上方 which causes a Thrust Fault导致了“逆冲断层”的形成 Many hills and mountains have been formed许多丘陵和山脉 due to the Convergent Boundary. Here, plates are drifted apart from each other,这种情况下 板块因漂移而相互分离 forming a Rift Zone. This kind gives birth to new ocean floors. Here, the plates here slip by each other这种情况下 板块之间走向滑动 and this is also called Strike-Slip. So earthquakes are nothing but the shaking,总之 地震不过只是抖动 rolling or a sudden shock of the earth’s surface. Now you know that whenever the Earth is stressed or angry,现在你们知道了 一旦地球压力太大或者是生气了 it shakes and grumbles! Don’t be scared, I was just kidding别害怕嘛 我就是开个玩笑 冷知识揭秘! The instrument used by Scientists to measure the intensity of Earthquake科学家们用一种仪器来测量地震的强度 is known as a Seismograph!

Let’s found out on today’s episode of … – [Announcer] Colossal Questions!就让我们在本期的《奇葩问》里找出答案吧 – [Narrator] To find out who first invented soda,为了找出谁先发明的汽水 we need to flash back to England in the year 1767,我们需要回到1767年的英国 where a scientist named Joseph Priestley有一个叫约瑟夫•普利斯特利的科学家 first discovered a method for creating carbonated water. He loved the taste of his new bubbly drink他很喜欢他的新气泡水的味道 and at first just shared it with family最初他只是跟家人 and friends who came to visit. But, in 1772, Priestly published a paper但在1772年 他发表了一篇论文 called Impregnating Water with Fixed Air,论文名为《水与气之结合》 where he laid out his process for the masses. One of the people who read his paper was John Mervin Nooth,一个叫约翰•默文•努斯读的人读了他的论文 who improved on Priestley’s design将设计改良了 and sold it commercially to pharmacies.并且把它卖给了药店 Why pharmacies instead of convenience stores? Well, in those days, mineral water was considered a health drink在那段时间 矿泉水被认为是健康饮料 kind of like the smoothies of their day.有点儿像他们日常生活中的冰沙 Eventually, pharmacies started adding最后 药房开始添加 different herbs and chemicals to improve the flavor:不同的草药和化学物去改善口味: ginger, birch bark, dandelion, sarsaparilla,生姜 桦树皮 蒲公英 洋菝契 fruit extracts, and all sorts of other things. People loved these new fizzy drinks,人们喜欢这种新汽水 and soda quickly grew in popularity. But there was one huge problem但这时 出现了一个巨大的问题 that was keeping soda from being mass-produced. They didn’t have a good way to seal the glass bottles shut. Inventors tried for years to devise ways发明家用了很多年去设计方法 to trap the carbonation inside without letting the gas leak防止碳酸化作用产生的气体跑掉 and not pressurizing bottles too much that they exploded. It took them years and dozens of different designs,他们为此花费多年的时间 尝试了大量的方案 but eventually the crown cork bottle seal最终 冠状瓶盖密封 was invented by a machine shop owner in Baltimore. This was the first cap to successfully trap the bubbles inside,这是第一个能成功地密封住气泡的瓶盖 and we still use it today. Now with a spiffy new cap, sales of bottle soda took off! Vending machines were invented in the 1920s,自动售货机发明于在20世纪20年代 and the soda can came along in the ’30s,而汽水出现在20世纪30年代 which gave customers even more ways to find it. Well, no one person invented that fizzy drink alone,汽水不是一个人独自发明的 but Joseph Priestley and his bubbles got the party started,但约瑟夫·普利斯特利和他的气泡是发明的起点 so thanks for that!感谢他们吧! and now you know where soda came from?现在你知道汽水是怎么来的吗? coming below if you have a question you’d like to know the anawer to如果你有问题请在下方留言 and don’t forget to subscribe for more episodes of colossal questions想看更多有趣内容 不要忘记订阅《奇葩问》 only on dream works TV本片由梦工厂TV 独家播出
