  • 2021-09-07Literally的用法Welcome to Ask the Editor.欢迎来到《问问编辑》 I’m Emily Brewster,我是Emily Brewster an associate editor at Merriam Webster.《韦氏词典》的一名副主编 A thrill went through the packed court座无虚席的法庭气氛紧张 literally electrifying everybody.简直(literally)令在场的所有人震动 So writes James Joyce in Ulysses.这是詹姆斯·乔伊斯在《尤利西斯》里的描写 No, the thrill described in that quote不 文章中所说的thrill is not one specially equipped with an electrical charge.不是那种因电击引起的震颤 Joyce is using the word Literally乔伊斯使用了Literally这个词 to mean in effect or virtually.意味着实际上或者事实上 Many people object to this extended use of literally,许多人反对过度使用Literally but Joyce isn’t alone in employing it.但不只乔伊斯这样使用 Charlotte Bronte and Louisa May Alcott used it.夏洛特·勃朗特和路易莎·梅·阿尔科特用过 So did Mark Twain and Willa Cather.马克·吐温和薇拉·凯瑟也用过 Also Vladimir Nabokov and David Foster Wallace.还有弗拉基米尔·纳博科夫和戴维·福斯特·华莱士 One might say that literature is,有人也许会说 文学作品中 (clearing throat)[清喉咙] literally riddled with it.Literally这个词屡见不鲜 Charles Dickens was a pioneer of the use.查尔斯·狄更斯是literally用法的开创者 In Nicholas Nickleby he writes that在《尼古拉斯·尼克尔贝》中他写道 one character literally feasted his eyes in silence upon another,一个角色确实(literally)默默看向另一个人 but the evolution of this use began much earlier.但这种用法的演变开始得更早 John Dryden complained that约翰·德莱顿抱怨 his daily bread is literally implored.他每天都(literally)食不果腹 Alexander Pope commented亚历山大·蒲柏说 everyday with me is literally another yesterday for it is exactly the same.我的每一天都是(literally)昨天的翻版 因为它们完全一样 In these instances the adverb adds emphasis在这些例子中 副词literally to the word or phrase that follows it,用于强调后面的单词或短语 that word or phrase being intended in a literal sense.此时单词或短语采用本义 Dickens merely placed the same intensifier in front of a figurative phrase that can’t be taken literally.狄更斯把强调成分放在无法从字面上(literally)理解的比喻短语前 The result, pure hyperbole, which is a legitimate literary tool.结果 纯粹的夸张成为完全合理的文学方式 Does this mean that you should use literally this way?这是否意味着你应该用literally表示夸张呢? Maybe, but remember that hyperbole requires care in handling and that可能吧 但记住夸张的语句需要谨慎使用 and that your audience may not recognize it for what it is.你的听众可能不知道你在说什么 You can tell someone that you literally devour novels你可以告诉别人你真的(literally)吃掉小说 and that your kids were literally bouncing off the walls,你的孩子真的(literally)从墙上弹了回来 but be prepared for your listener to refuse to lend you books但要有心理准备对方拒绝把书借给你 and to be curious about the composition of your offspring.并且对你孩子的身体结构感到好奇 For more from our Ask the Editor series想要了解更多《问问编辑》系列 visit merriam-webster.com.可以登录韦氏词典官网
  • 2021-09-07I HAD LEARNED…过去完成时|含发音和示例的英语语法课Hey there I’m Emma from mmmEnglish!大家好 欢迎收看《艾玛英语》 我是艾玛 Today we’re gonna focus on the language今天我们将会着重讲解 that you need to tell stories in English.如何用英语讲故事 Now, we all tell stories, right?我们都会讲故事 对吧 About our day, about our childhood关于生活 关于童年 or maybe just to laugh at something that happened earlier.或者只是为了取笑之前发生的事情 So a really useful tense to help you所以在英语中 accurately tell stories in English过去完成时是一个非常有用的时态 is the past perfect.可以帮助你准确地讲故事 Now I know that grammar isn’t usually heaps of fun我知道语法通常不是很有趣 but we’re going to include some pronunciation practice我们接下来会有一些发音练习 and I will make it as fun as I can.我会尽可能地让它变得有趣 As always I’ve got a mini quiz at the end和往常一样 我会在最后留一个小测验 to help you practise so make sure you stick around.来帮助你练习 所以一定要坚持到最后 So we use the past perfect to talk about the past我们用过去完成时来谈论过去的事情 but not just any situation in the past,但不是过去的任何情况都会用到 we use the past perfect当我们谈论过去发生的两件事 when we’re talking about two events that happened in the past且其中一件事发生在另一件事之前 and when one event happened before the other event.这时候我们会使用过去完成时 So it helps you to order the actions in your story.它可以帮助你安排故事中动作的顺序 Think about the past perfect as helping us to create a timeline.过去完成时可以帮我们创建时间线 I had just stepped outsid e when it started to rain.我刚到外面 天就开始下雨了 So there are two actions here, right?这里有两个动作 对吧 I stepped outside, it started to rain.我走出去 天开始下雨 Now if I use just the past simple for both of theses events如果我两个事件都用一般过去时 well then we don’t know which one happened first, right?那我们就不知道哪一件事先发生 对吧 All we know is that both events happened in the past.我们只知道这两件事都发生在过去 So by using the past perfect in one of those actions,所以对其中一个动作中使用过去完成时 I’m letting you know which action happened before the other.你就会知道两个动作的先后顺序 I had just stepped outside when it started to rain.我刚到外面 天就开始下雨了 So which one came first?那么哪个动作先发生呢? I stepped outside and then after it started to rain.我走到外面 然后天就开始下雨了 Let’s look at a few more examples.让我们再多看几个例子 She had just finished her exam when the timer went off.她刚完成试卷 计时器就响了 So which action happened first?那么哪个动作先发生呢? Did the timer go up first?是计时器先响的吗? No she finished her exam first but only by a little, just.不是 她先完成了试卷 但是仅早了一点点 And we know this because of the past perfect.我们通过分析过去完成时得到这些信息 I couldn’t go out for dinner because I had left my wallet at home.我不能出去吃晚饭 因为我把钱包忘在家里了 So try and imagine the story here, you know, I was试着想象一下这个故事 working and one of my colleagues came up to ask me当时我正在工作 一位同事走过来 to join them for dinner after work邀请我下班后和他们一起吃晚饭 but I realised that I didn’t have my wallet that day.但我意识到那一天 我没带钱包 I left it at home.我把它落在家了 So I couldn’t go out.所以我不能出去吃饭 He had mentioned feeling sick,他说过他感觉不舒服 but then they were surprised when he suddenly fainted.但当他突然昏倒时 人们还是吓了一跳 Now that is a great sentence. It’s very dramatic.这是一个很好的句子 很有戏剧性 He did say that he felt sick他确实说过他觉得不舒服 and he mentioned it before he fainted but而且是晕倒前说的 clearly, no one was paying attention because it was但显然没有人注意到 a shock that he fainted.因为他的晕倒让他们很震惊 So the past perfect helps our story to unfold over time,所以过去完成时让故事随着时间的推移而展开 to create suspense and to create drama.创造悬念 创造剧情 So let’s talk about how we make a past perfect sentence下面我们来谈谈 如何用过去完成时造句 and it’s pretty simple actually这其实很简单 as far as English verb tenses go就英语动词时态而言 especially after all of the conditionals videos that I’ve been teaching lately.尤其是在我最近教的条件句视频之后 You’ve probably already started noticing a pattern.你可能已经开始注意到了一种模式 We create the past perfect by using the verb ‘had’我们用动词had构成过去完成时 the auxiliary verb ‘had’,followed by our main verb in past participle form.助动词had后接主要动词的分词形式 So let’s go back and look at those same examples again我们回过头来 再看看之前一样的例子 She had just finished her exam when the timer went off.她刚完成试卷 计时器就响了 I couldn’t go out for dinner我不能出去吃晚饭 because I had left my wallet at home.因为我把钱包落在家了 He had mentioned feeling sick他说过他觉得不舒服 but then they were surprised when he suddenly fainted.但当他突然昏倒时 人们还是吓了一跳 So I’m going to interrupt our lesson here在深入讨论之前 before we go too much further because I want to talk我要打断一下我们的课程 about pronunciation.因为我想谈一谈发音 Learning to correctly use contractions is going to help学习正确使用缩略形式将帮助你 you to sound much more natural在说话时听起来更自然 and much more relaxed as you speak.而且更加放松 ‘had’ is our auxiliary verb here, right? and our main verbhad在这里是助动词 对吧? comes after in the past participle form.主要动词的过去分词的形式紧跟其后 So auxiliary verbs are grammatical words.所以助动词是语法词 They’re usually unstressed and this impacts the way that they are spoken.它们通常不需要重读 所以影响了它们的发音 Auxiliary verbs are usually connected to the subject在英语口语中 助动词通常与主语相连 in spoken English so it’s really natural to hear I’d instead of I had所以很自然地听到I’d而不是I had you’dyou‘d she’dshe’d he’dhe’d we’dwe’d they’dthey’d and the trickiest one of all,其中最难的一个 it’d,it’d It’d been raining all day.雨下了一整天 Now in negative sentences,在否定句中 the auxiliary verb usually contracts with ‘not’ so you’ll hear助动词通常与not连用 所以你会听到 I hadn’t instead of I had not.I hadn’t 而不是I had not Or you hadn’t instead of you had not.或是you hadn’t 而不是you had not Now remember, we don’t conjugate the auxiliary verb记住 当我们使用过去完成时 when were using the past perfect right助动词不用变形 so we use ‘had’ with ‘she’.所以我she能与had连用 she hadn’t.she hadn’t it hadn’t.it hadn’t they hadn’t.they hadn’t But you will occasionally hear the contraction a little differently.但是你偶尔会听到一些不同的缩略形式 She’d not been there. She’d not been there. Or you’d not tasted it.或者you’d not tasted it. And this is absolutely no problem当然这没有问题 but it’s much less common. It’s used less frequently.只是这些不太常见 使用的频率比较低 My students often feel really frustrated about these我的学生经常对这些缩略形式感到苦恼 contractions because they’re exactly the same因为它们与我们在 contractions as we use for ‘I would’ l’dI would I’d中使用的缩略词完全相同 It’s annoying I know我知道这很令人讨厌 but the clue is in the main verb that follows because with ‘would’,但是线索是 would后面要用动词原形 it’s always followed by the infinitive verb right?would后面总是跟动词原形 对吧 ‘had’ is always followed by the past participle.had后面总是跟着过去分词 So if you hear ‘I’d go to the beach every day after school’如果你听到 I’d go to the beach every day after school we know that that’s ‘would’ because我们知道d代替了would the verb ‘go’ is an infinitive form.因为go是动词原形 I’d been at the beach when the storm rolled in.暴风雨来临时 我正在海滩上 We know that that’s the past perfect因为后面的动词形式 because of the verb form that follows.我们知道这是过去完成时 So as we move through this lesson,所以在这节课程的推进过程中 tune into the way that I’m saying all the examples and the practice sentences.仔细听我如何念出例句和练习句 Try to practise out loud with me试着和我一起大声练习 and just get comfortable with it.慢慢适应发音 Alright now let’s get back to how the past perfect tense is used那么现在让我们再来看如何使用过去完成时 because it almost always involves因为它几乎总是涉及到 more than one event or action.一个以上的事件或动作 So we usually need to know what to do with the other event in our sentence, right?所以我们通常需要知道如何处理句子中的其他事件 对吧? So when we use the past perfect in a sentence to show当我们在一个句子中使用过去完成时来 the order of things that happen in the past,表示过去发生事情的顺序时 the first event happens in the past perfect tense.首先发生的事件用过去完成时 The second event happens in the past simple tense.后发生的事件用一般过去时 Now interestingly it doesn’t matter which order the events are in the sentence.有趣的是 事件在句子中的顺序并不重要 It’s the tenses that tell us what happened first时态会告诉我们哪件事先发生 so we could say the past perfect, past simple所以我们可以说过去完成时 一般过去时 or the past simple and the past perfect.或者一般过去时和过去完成时 It’s the same. In either of those examples,它们是一样的 在这两个例子中 the past perfect event is the one that happened first in time.用过去完成时的事件在时间上最先发生 I had just smelled smoke when the fire alarm went off.我刚闻到烟味 火警警报就响了 Or when the fire alarm went off,或者火警警报响起的时候 I had just smelled smoke.我刚闻到烟味 So in both examples, I smelled the smoke first.在这两个例子中 都是在警报响起之前 It happened just before the alarm went off.我就已经闻到了烟味 I also want to make a special point about adverbs here这里我还想对副词做一个特别说明 because we use adverbs like ‘just’ and ‘really’ ‘already’.因为我们会用just really already这样的副词 They’re often used in the past perfect tense它们通常用在过去完成时中 and they go between ‘had’ and our main verb, right?并且位于had和主要动词之间 对吧? So we have ‘had’,adverb, past participle.所以我们用had 副词 过去分词 Had just finished.这样就算完成了 Had really tried. Had already eaten.在你尝试过 并且掌握了用法之后 All of this is exciting huh?这一切都很有成就感对吧? It helps us to add more to our story.过去完成时帮助我们完善我们的故事 So we use ‘just’ with the past perfect when one event所以当一件事紧接着另一件事发生时 happens immediately before the other连用just和过去完成时 so you really want to emphasise that从而你就能强调 not much time has passed between the first event and the second event.第一 第二件事发生时相隔不久 He had just got in the shower他刚洗完澡 when he heard a knock at the door.就听到有人敲门 So it was only moments before.就在那敲门一刻之前 We use ‘already’ with the past perfect when an event当一件事发生的比预期的早或更早时 happens early or earlier than expected.already和过去完成时连用 I ran to the supermarket as fast as I could我以最快的速度跑向超市 but it had already closed when I got there.但当我到那儿的时候它已经关门了 Do you want to know one of the most common你想知道我的学生在使用这种时态时 mistakes that my students make with this tense?最常犯的一个错误吗? Can you see what’s wrong there?你能看这句话的错误吗? It’s the present perfect它是现在完成时 and you can’t use ‘when’ with the past simple and the present perfect.你不能将when与一般过去时和现在完成时连用 We have to use the past perfect我们必须用过去完成时 ‘had’ with the past participlehad与过去分词连用 even when the subject is plural, we still use ‘had’即使主语是复数 我们仍然用had okay so don’t conjugate the verb. That is a massive mistake 所以使用过去完成时 不要改变动词形式 when you’re talking about the past perfect.这是个很大的错误 So we’ve gone through all the details about how我们已经讲完了过去完成时的所有细节 to make the past perfect, what you need to remember,你应该记住什么 what you need to do.还有你需要怎么做 Let’s practise using it together.让我们一起练习使用它 I’m really looking forward to hearing some stories from you guys.我真的很想听听你们的故事 Quiz time!测试时间! To kick off our quiz, I’m gonna give you two events or actions up here.开始测验时 我会给你提供两个事件或动作 Both of these events take place in the past.这两件事都发生在过去 So I’ll tell you which event happened first and you’ll need我会告诉你哪件事先发生 to write a sentence correctly using the past perfect.你需要正确地使用过去完成时写一个句子 So the first event was we heard a strange noise第一件事是 我们听到了奇怪的声音 and the second event was第二件事是 the lights went out immediately after.灯马上熄灭了 Now that part about immediately after is important紧接其后这部分很重要 because you can use an adverb to help explain that.因为你可以用副词来解释 So you might write something like所以你可以这样写 We had just heard a strange noise当灯熄灭时 when the lights went out.我们刚刚听到了一个奇怪的声音 Now it’s your turn to try.现在轮到你们尝试了 So I want you to write your answers in the comments down below this video在视频下方的评论区写下你们的答案 so that I can come down and check them for you,这样我就可以下来帮你们检查了 correct them if you need it.如果你需要的话 我会帮你纠正 Ths first event.第一件事 I decided to leave.我决定离开 The second event.第二件事 The boss called for a meeting.老板要求开会 The second event第二件事 was we bought plane tickets.我们买了机票 The first event.第一件事 The prices increased.机票涨价了 Unexpectedly early.出乎意料的早 Last one. First event.最后一个例子 第一件事 She looked around for help.她环顾四周寻求帮助 Second event.第二件事 A salesperson appeared, immediately afterwards.一名销售人员随即出现 Awesome work!你们都做的都很棒 I have got one extra challenge for you if you如果你真的想检验你的技能 really want to test your skills, see how well you can do.我给你准备了一个额外的挑战 看看你做得怎么样 I want you to write a short story for me我想让你写一个短篇故事 about a misadventure that you’ve had once in the past.关于你过去经历中的一次不幸 So I want you to try and use three examples of the past perfect.我希望 你能试着用三个过去完成时的例子 And just so you know a misadventure is an adventure or a story正如你们所知 misadventure是一个冒险或一个故事 but something went a little wrong.但是事情出了一点差错 Something went not quite right,有些事情不太顺利 perhaps it’s quite a funny story where you were也可以是一个很有趣的故事 running late, you missed your bus比如你迟到了 错过了公交车 and you got rained on.或者你被雨淋了 Or maybe it was a frustrating story about也可能是一个令人沮丧的故事 losing your keys, getting locked out比如丢了钥匙 被锁在门外 and then missing an important meeting.然后错过了一个重要的会议 I’m really excited to read these stories guys我特别期待能读一读你的故事 and I’m gonna do my best to give you feedback,我也会尽最大的努力给你们反馈 especially if you get your stories written in the next couple of days,特别是如果你们能够在接下来的几天里 写好你们的故事 as soon as this video is released on my channel.彼时我也会在我的频道上发布本视频 Thank you for sticking with me through this lesson.感谢大家坚持听我讲完这节课 I hope that it was useful and a little bit of fun.我希望这对大家有所帮助 也能增添一些乐趣 Make sure you subscribe to my channel and请大家订阅我的频道 share this lesson with anyone who you know needs to并把这节课分享给任何 practise their grammar a little.你认识的需要练习语法的人 As always you can join me right here for our next lesson和往常一样 你可以点击此处 参加我的下节课程 See you in there!下节课见!
  • 2021-09-07忘了某个词怎么说?拒绝卡壳——提升英语会话能力– Hello, everyone.大家好 And welcome back to English With Lucy.欢迎回到《露西教英文》 It’s so annoying when it happens,试想一个烦人的场景 you are talking freely and happily in English,当你轻松且愉快地说英语时 and then (dramatic music) everything stops.然后 [戏剧性配乐] 一切都静止了 The world stops, your mind stops,世界停下了 你的思想停下了 and most frustratingly,最糟糕的是 your conversation stops.你的对话停下了 You’ve blocked.你卡住了 You can’t find that perfect word.你找不到一个合适的单词 You may even feel that you do actually know that word你甚至能感觉到在头脑深处 deep in your head,你知道这个单词 you just can’t remember it.你只是没记起来 Perhaps, you don’t even know it at all.也许 你完全不知道它 You’re reaching for it,你想抓住它 but it’s just too far away.但它离你实在是太远了 What can you do?你能做什么呢? When I was actively learning Spanish,当我积极地学习西班牙语时 this happened to me all of the time.这种事经常发生 I can still feel the anxiety in here.我也能感受到当时的焦虑 I’m now fluent in Spanish.现在 我的西班牙语说得很流利 And although it happens with much less frequency,即使已经不那么频繁 it does still happen,这种事仍然会发生 especially if I’m feeling a bit rusty.尤其是当我感到有点生疏的时候 If you feel rusty in a language,当你发现自己在一门语言上生疏了 it means that you haven’t practised enough这意味着你练习得还不够 and you’ve regressed slightly.你已经有点退步了 I mean,我是说 I still get word block in English我说英语的时候也会忘词 and that’s my mother tongue.这可是我的母语呀 It happens to almost everyone.这发生在大多数人身上 Today,今天 I am going to help you with your blockages (laughs)我将帮助解决你的卡壳 [笑] and give you five things that you can use to fight并提供你五条建议 against this.来应对这种情况 five things that you can do when you can’t remember a word.当你忘词的时候 你可以做这五件事 Number one,第一点 this is potentially the most exciting segment for me.这可能是我最让我激动的部分 And I can’t believe I haven’t taught this to you before,我实在不敢相信之前没有告诉你们 because although these aren’t real words,因为即使这些不是正规单词 they are very commonly used.但却被经常使用 They are called placeholder names.它们被称为指代词 So you can use placeholder names or unknown name terms你可以运用指代词或者不确定代称 in place of the word or phrase or name来代替你思索的 that you’re searching for.单词或短语或姓名 Now in English,目前在英语中 we have loads of these and we use them all the time.有很多这样的词 而且我们一直都在用 My mum is constantly forgetting words and she comes up我的妈妈经常忘记单词 with the most amazing placeholder names to replace这时她就想一个最贴切的代称 the words that she is lacking.来代替她想不出的单词 So just to be clear,所以我们无疑可以 these are words that replace a word that we can’t think of,用这些单词可以代替那些 we can’t remember, or we don’t know.我们想不到 记不住或者是不知道的单词 So firstly,第一 we use lots of extensions of thing.我们可以使用“thing”的衍生词 We can say thingy, for example.比方说“thingy” And we typically use this to refer to a thing我们经常会用它来指代 that we don’t know the name of.一件我们不知道名字的东西 “The doctor gave me a thingy医生给了我一个 to help me deal with my stress.”可以缓解我压力的东西(thingy) I might be referring to a stress ball or some fidget toy我可能是在说压力球或是一些解压玩具 or something.或是别的东西 I don’t know the word.我不知道它叫什么 So I use thingy.所以我说thingy I just think it’s worth noting,我觉得需要指出 this is all an informal speech.因为这只是一个非正式口语 We wouldn’t use this in academic text or in exams我们不会在学术文章 考试 or in a business meeting.或是商业会议中使用它 Well, you might, it depends on the corporate vibe.好吧 也可能会 取决于企业氛围 Another very popular one is thingamajig,另一个常用的是“thingamajig” thingamajig.thingamajig This can also refer to people.这个词也可以用来指代人 So if you can’t remember someone’s name,因此 如果你无法记住一个人的名字 “Did you talk to thingamajig last night?”“你昨晚和那个人说话了吗?” Did you talk to unknown person last night?“你昨晚和某人说话了吗?” Thingamabob.Thingamabob Thingamabob is almost exactly the same.Thingamabob几乎和前面提到的用法一样 It can refer to objects or to people.它既可以指物也可以指人 “Have you spoken to thingamabob recently?”“你最近和那谁说话了吗?” I can’t remember their name,我记不住他的名字 I’m hoping you know who I’m talking about我希望你知道我说的是谁 and can say their name for me.并能把他的名字告诉我 Or, “My hairdresser gave me a thingamabob或者“我的理发师给我用了个那啥 to help hold my hair in place.”来固定我的头发” He gave me some hairspray,我猜 I’m guessing.他给我用的是发胶 We also use some extensions of what as well,我们也可以使用“what”的衍生词 watchermacallit.比如watchermacallit A watchermacallit is very popular.Watchermacallit很常用 “Did you pick up a watchermacallit at the shop?”“你是在商店里捡到的那个东西吗?” This could be anything, can of tomatoes,它可以指任何事物 番茄罐头 a watermelon.西瓜 Who knows?谁知道呢 Depends on the context.取决于上下文 We also use whatsitsname.我们有时候也用whatsitsname Whatitsname.whatsitname Watchermacallit seems to be more for thingsWatchermacallit似乎更多用于事物 rather than people.较少指代人 Whatsitsname can be people or things.whatsitsname可以指人也可以指物 “Did you see any whatsitsnames at the shop?”“你在商店里有看到那个了吗?” Now we do have a few specifically for people.而接下来是一些我们用来特定指人的词 Whatshername or whatshisname?“Whatshername”或者“whatshisname” There is another one, or two actually,还有另一个词 确切地说是两个 ’cause it’s masculine and feminine因为要取决于使用对象是男性还是女性 that my mother uses a lot and therefore I have always这个词我妈妈经常使用 used a lot.因此我也一直在用 But when I started using it with my fiance,但我对我的未婚夫说这个词时 he was quite surprised.他十分惊讶 He thought it was quite rude.他认为这是非常不礼貌的 It is whatsherface and whatshisface.这就是“whatsherface”和“whatshisface” If we can’t remember the name of someone如果我们记不住某人的名字 “Oh, did you see whatsherface?“哦 你看见那女的了吗?” Whatsherface?”那个女的 Or, “Oh, whatshisface was there last night.”或者“哦 那女的昨晚在那” And I remember Will being really shocked我记得Will很震惊 like, “Where did you learn these strange words?”像在问我“你在哪学的这些奇怪的词?” But my mum uses them all the time.但我妈总是使用它们 So maybe note these ones down,请把这些记下来 but be careful who至于要用在谁的身上 you use them with. (laughing)要十分慎重 [笑声] Finally,最后 we use a lot placeholders with doo,我们也会用“doo”作为指代词 doo.doo And it just goes to show that it depends on the family而事实证明这取决于家庭 because in my family, we never use placeholders with doo,因为我家从未用过“doo” but in Will’s family, they do use doo all the time.但在Will的家里 他们经常使用“doo” The one that they use a lot is doodah,他们经常说的是“doodah” doodah.doodah And this refers mainly to people, but also to things.这个词主要指人 但也可以指物 So I think Will’s mom told me once, “Oh doodah got engaged.”我想起有次Will的妈妈跟我说“噢 doodah已经订婚了” I was thinking, “Doodah?我就想 “Doodah? Who’s doodah?”谁是doodah?” But no, doodah is a name used when you can’t remember但其实 “doodah”用来指代那个你想不起名字 the person’s name and you expect the other person to know又希望其他人 who you’re talking about.知道你说的是谁的人 Doodad is the same thing,“Doodad”也一样 normally referring more to things.通常指代事物 “Can you go into the garage“你能进到车库 and see if there are any doodads?”看看里面有没有那啥吗?” And hopefully your speaking partner will understand而你的同伴有可能知道 what you’re talking about.你说的是什么 Now, number two is more of a general recommendation第二点 更像一个建议 and this segment is sponsored by Lingoda.本部分由Lingoda赞助 It is study every day to try and avoid becoming rusty每天学习可以避免生疏 as I did with Spanish.就像我学西班牙语那样 Taking a class every day is a great way to avoid每天上课是一个好办法 that rustiness problem.可以防止生疏 Lingoda are running their language sprint.Lingoda正在举办语言冲刺活动 With the language sprint,没错 语言冲刺 you can learn to speak a language confidently你可以在三个月内学会 in three months,自信地使用一门语言 gain 100% of your money back and get free access获得全额退款 to the Cambridge Online Speaking Test.并且能够免费参加剑桥在线口语测试 You just need to take one of their 24-7 classes你只需要连续上三个月 every day for three months and get your course fees他们全年无休的课程 completely refunded.然后获得全额退费 Click on the link in the description box点击视频描述里的链接 to check the dates for this sprint.查看冲刺课程的日期 Be quick.快点哦 If you miss the deadline or the spaces are filled,如果你错过了截止日期或者名额已满的话 you will miss out.你就失去这次机会了 The Super Sprint offers a 100% refund超级冲刺活动 提供全额退款 and there is also the lighter Regular Sprint option还有一些较轻松的课程 with a 50% refund.退款50% You can join the sprint in English, French, German, Spanish,你可以在冲刺课程中学习英语 法语 德语 西班牙语 商务英语 and business English from beginner to advanced level.从初级到高级都有 I’m really happy to share this opportunity with you很高兴能与你分享这个机会 because I’ve had first hand experience of how effective因为我亲身经历过 the Lingoda language challenges can be.Lingida语言挑战是多么的有效 They’ve transformed many of my students’ lives.它改变了我很多学生的人生 They love Lingoda because they can interact with amazing他们热爱Lingoda因为他们可以随时随地 qualified teachers anytime, anywhere, any day.和优秀的老师进行交流 Group sizes are really small and intimate学习组规模很小也很温馨 with an average of just three students per class.每个班平均就只有三个学生 Over 30,000 people have participated in previous已有超过3000名学生参加了 Lingoda language challenges with many of them being ableLingoda之前的语言挑战 to get in new jobs and overcome their fear of speaking.许多人找到新工作 克服了他们说话恐惧 So how can you participate?那要怎么样才能参加呢 Sign up for the sprint before the deadline在截止日期前报名冲刺课程 and pay the deposit to secure your spot.并支付定金保留名额 You can use my code SCHOOL15 for €10 off.你可以使用优惠码“SCHOOL15”抵扣10欧元 Lingoda will refund your tuition fee in full,Lingoda会将全额退还 along with your deposit if you attend the agreed你的学费和定金 number of classes within each sprint month,前提是你遵守规则 by following the contest rules.每个月都参加规定数量的冲刺课程 Remember places in the sprint are limited.记住冲刺课程的名额是有限制的 This is a language school, places fill up.这是一个语言学校 名额有限 So you have the link in the description box.链接在描述框内 You have my discount code SCHOOL15, €10 off.你可以使用折扣码抵扣10欧元 What are you waiting for?你还在等什么呢? Number three is try to describe the word using simple terms第三点是尝试使用简单 通用的术语 or generic terms.来描述某个词语 Oftentimes, we over-complicate things by wanting to find大多数时候 我们因为想找一个非常精确的单词 a very, very specific word.把事情过于复杂化了 And as a result,结果 we put a stop to our conversation flow and in the end结果 阻断了我们的对话 make everything really awkward whilst we’re trying我们拼命地想某些事 to desperately think of something.会让场面陷入尴尬 That can wait.可以等会儿 You can make a mental note and search for that word later.你可以在心里记着它 以后再想 I think it’s better to just search for a simple word我认为当下去找一个 that is good enough in the moment.简单的词会更好 For example, imagine you can’t remember the word puppy.例如 你想不起puppy(小狗)这个单词 You could just say baby dog.你可以说成“baby dog”(幼狗) It’s not overly correct,这并不准确 but it will do.但能表达意思 Or if you can’t remember the word paediatrician,或者你想不起paediatrician(儿科专家) you could just say a doctor for children.也可以说成a doctor for children(给小孩看病的医生) That leads me on to number four.这就来到第四点 If it’s a little more complex,如果那个词有点复杂 you could try to describe the purpose or the use你可以尝试描述 for something or someone.某物的用途或某人的目的 For example,举个例子 if you wanted someone to pass you a pencil sharpener,如果你想让某人递给你一个削笔刀 but you can’t think of the word,但你不知到削笔刀怎么说 you could say, “Oh, can you pass me that thing你可以说“哦 你能把那个 that’s used for making pencils pointed?”可以让铅笔变尖的东西借我吗?” I’ve just said the use.我描述了它的作用 And it’s very clear what I would like.就十分清楚地表达了我想要什么 Another example, say,另一个例子 I’ve met someone and they are really nice假设我遇到了一群特别好的人 and they are a librarian and I’m trying to describe them他们是图书管理员 但我尝试向别人介绍的时候 to someone but I’ve forgotten the word librarian,忘记了librarian(图书管理员)这个单词 I could say, “They work in the place where我可以说 you can borrow books.”“他们在你借书的地方工作” Librarian, very clear, very obvious.跟Librarian一样 表达得十分清晰明白 The final recommendation, number five,最后 第五点 is to use approximations.是使用近义词 This is when you use phrases such as,此时你可以使用下列短语 it’s like, it’s sort of, it’s kind of,“it’s like…” “it’s sort of…” “it’s kind of…” it’s kind of like, it’s sort of like.“it’s kind like…” “it’s sort of like…” An example is the word jumpsuit or romper一个例子是美式英语词汇 in American English.“jumpsuit”或“romper”(连体衣裤) If I don’t know the exact word for that,如果我不知道这个的确切单词 I would say, “It’s kind of like a dress,我会说“有点像裙子 but with trousers as well.但也有裤腿” So hopefully even if you didn’t know what a jumpsuit所以 即使你不知道 or a romper is,jumpsuit或romper是什么 you might now understand it because I’ve described it你也能够理解 as a dress but with trousers or shorts.因为我说的是像裙子但有长或短的裤腿 Now using three, four and five instigates使用第三 四 五点建议 a great learning opportunity.能创造一个超棒的学习机会 The chances are that your speaking partner这个机会 will know the words that you are searching for可以让你的对话同伴知道你在找合适的词 and they can help you as well.这样他们也能帮助你 You can set this off by saying at the beginning你可以对话开始前就说 of a conversation, “By the way, if I use the wrong word,“顺便说一句 如果我用错了词 feel free to correct me.请你们随时纠正我 Don’t feel rude to interrupt me.”不要担心打断我不礼貌” I always said this in Spanish and it was amazing我总是用西班牙语说这句话 how much people genuinely wanted to help me.惊喜的是 人们都很真诚地帮助我 And it was really nice when we could laugh而我们一起笑话我犯的错误 at my mistakes together,也是非常好的 ’cause let’s face it, when you’re learning a new language,因为面对现实吧 当你学习一门语言时 it isn’t easy to make jokes in that language.用新学的语言开玩笑可不容易 So a really nice way to have a laugh is to laugh at yourself所以想开怀大笑的一个最好方法 and your language mistakes.就是笑话你自己和你所犯的错误 I think it also makes the other person feel more comfortable as well.我想这也可以使其他人感到更舒心 Right.好了 That’s it for today’s lesson.以上就是今天的课程 I hope you enjoyed it希望你能喜欢 and I hope you learned something.我也希望你能学到一些 If you have any more ideas or recommendations for overcoming如果你对克服语言卡壳问题 language block,还有更多的想法或建议 please leave them down below in the description box.请在描述框下方评论 No, don’t put them in the description box,不 不是在描述框里写 put them in the comments section.是在评论区留言 The description box is mine.描述框是我的 The comments section is yours.评论区是才你们的 Also feel free to share any funny language block moments也请随意分享一些 you’ve had, times where there is just a word that is impossible to describe.你经历过的有趣的卡壳瞬间 Don’t forget to check out the Lingoda Language Sprint.不要忘记查看Lingoda语言冲刺活动 The link is in the description box,链接和日期都在描述框内 along with all the dates and you can use my code, SCHOOL15你可以用我的优惠码“SCHOOL 15” for a €10 discount on your deposit.来抵扣10欧元定金 Don’t forget to connect with me on all of my social media.记得在各种社交媒体上联系我 I’ve got my Facebook, my Instagram, and my Twitter.我有脸书 照片墙 推特 You can now sign up to receive emails from me.你可以现在注册 就能接收我的邮件 The link is down in the description box as well,链接也放在描述框内了 Very exciting.非常兴奋 And I have my new vlogging channel.我有新的博客频道了 It’s not so new anymore.不过也不是很新了 My vlogging channel,我很快就会在我的vlog频道 I’ll be uploading a vlog very, very soon上传一个视频 If not already, who knows?如果还没传的话 谁知道呢 I will see you soon for another lesson.我们将会在另一个课程中很快见面 (blows a kiss)[飞吻] (upbeat music)[动感音乐]

It’s going to be a vocabulary builder video for you too.这还能够帮助你扩大词汇量 Now, if you like this video or you learned something new,如果你喜欢本视频或学到了新知识 please like it and subscribe. It helps a lot.请点赞并订阅 这很有帮助 《瑞秋英语》 美式英语发音指南 So today, we’re working on your ability to put together descriptive sentences.今天我们来锻炼你运用描述句的能力 We recently did a video where we looked at a picture and named objects that was just nouns.我们最近做了一期看图说词的视频 So now, we’re going to be moving on.现在 我们继续来讲讲 We’re going to be using verbs, adjectives, maybe adverbs in addition.我们会用到动词 形容词 还可能加上副词 Let’s do one together.我们一起做一题 We’re going to see a photo,我们会看到一张照片 this is of my son Stoney, and my niece Emily,这是我的儿子Stoney和侄女Emily on a recent trip to Mexico.最近去墨西哥旅行的照片 You’re going to see it for ten seconds.你有十秒钟的时间观看 And I want you to think in your mind, come up with one sentence in English,然后我要你在头脑中想出一个英语句子 it can be as simple as it has to be.多简单都可以 Now, maybe you can come up with much more than one sentence.也许你能想到更多的句子 Great, keep going, keep coming up with sentences until that timer is done.很好 继续 继续造句 直到截止时间 But if you can only do one sentence, that’s fine too.如果你只想出一个句子 那也没有关系 Okay, here it is.好了 就是这张照片 Did that timer in the corner stress you out?角落的计时器是否让你很紧张? It’s going to be there把它放在那里是因为 because I want you to practice thinking quickly.我希望你练习快速地思考 Maybe thinking under a little bit of pressure just like it will be in a conversation.这样有点压力的思考就像谈话的场景 Practicing it makes it easier.练习能简化这个过程 Okay, now let’s go over that photo,好的 我们来看看这张照片 and we’re going to come up with some sentences that you may have thought of.然后我们会想到一些你可能想到的句子 Stoney is on Emily’s lap.Stoney坐在Emily的腿上 They’re sitting in a white plastic chair at a restaurant.他们坐在餐馆的一张白色塑料椅子上 Stoney is eating pancakes with strawberries on top.Stoney正在吃草莓煎饼 Emily has her sunglasses on her head.Emily的头上带着太阳镜 They’re both smiling.他们都在笑 They look happy.他们看起来很开心 The floor is tile.地板是瓷砖的 Stoney has a fork in his mouth.Stoney把叉子放在嘴里 These are just ideas of course.当然 这些只是一些想法 You may have come up with phrases that are totally different but are accurate.你可能想出完全不同 但很准确的短语 There’s no right or wrong here.这里没有对错之分 What we want to focus on here is clearing your head, and going from English.这里我们要聚焦的是放空大脑 直接用英语思考 The sentence can be as simple as it has to be.多简单的句子都可以 Just start from a place of English from your English vocabulary as you describe what’s happening.依据你有限的词汇量来描述发生的事情 Now, if you can’t yet put together a sentence, that’s okay too.如果你现在还不能完全造出一个句子 那也没有关系 Just go back to naming objects: table, chair, mouth. That kind of thing.继续说物体名称 桌子 椅子 嘴巴 这类事物 That is still building the skill of thinking in English,这也是在培养英语思维技能 and before you know it, you’ll be able to put together simple sentences too.然后你会突然发现自己也能造简单的句子了 For everybody, building the skill of thinking in English is going to let you sound more natural对每个人来说 建立英语思维技能会让你在表达英语时 when you’re speaking English, and it’s going to let you join that conversation faster.听起来更自然 也能让你更快速地融入谈话 Okay, let’s look at another picture.好的 我们来看另一张照片 You have 10 seconds. Take a deep breath.你有十秒钟 深呼吸 Get your mind ready to think in English.让思维准备好用英语思考 This is a picture of me, David, and Stoney.这是我 David和Stoney的一张照片 I should have said David is my husband.我应该说过David是我的丈夫 Okay, now we’re going to go over that picture 现在 我们回看这张照片 and come up with some possible sentences,想想一些可能的句子 and then I’m going to hit you with three pictures in a row.然后我会连续给你三张照片 They’re at Disney.他们在迪士尼乐园 It’s crowded.这里人很多 It’s sunny.天气晴朗 They’re all wearing baseball caps.他们都戴着棒球帽 Rachel’s wearing a striped shirt.瑞秋穿着一件条纹衫 They look excited to be there.他们很兴奋到那里 David has a beard.David有胡子 It may feel silly to just describe a picture and state the obvious,只描述照片陈述事实可能感觉很傻 but it does build the skill and it starts from a simple place.但这确实是这项能力的基础 从简单开始 So that no matter your level, you can start here, and you can do this.无论什么水平 你可以从这里开始练习 你可以做好 Building the skill to think in English. It’s invaluable.建立英语思维技能非常有意义 Here are three photos in a row. Ten seconds each.这里有连续三张照片 每张十秒钟 Try to come up with at least one sentence for each,每张照片 至少想出一个句子 but maybe you can come up with four or five, or maybe even more.也许你能想出四五个句子 可能甚至更多 Okay, let’s take a look at those pictures好 我们来看一下这些照片 and go over some sentences that you may have come up with.看看你可能想出的句子 Then we’re going to jump to video clips.然后我们来进行视频片段 Stoney’s at the beach.Stoney在沙滩上 He’s playing in the surf.他在冲浪 The water is foamy.水起了泡沫 He’s wearing a red hat.他戴着一顶红色的帽子 He’s running out of the water.他从水里跑出来 This is an action shot.这是一个动作镜头 They’re carving a pumpkin.他们在雕刻南瓜 Rachel’s taking out the seeds.瑞秋在挖种子 Stoney’s watching.Stoney在观察 They’re outside.他们在户外 Rachel’s wearing flip-flops.瑞秋穿着人字拖 Rachel is squatting.瑞秋正蹲着 Stoney is sitting cross-legged.Stoney盘腿坐着 The boys are wearing matching pajamas.男孩们穿着配套的睡衣 Stoney’s barefoot.Stoney光着脚 Sawyer only has two teeth.Sawyer只有两颗牙 Sawyer has his hand on Stoney.Sawyer的手搭在Stoney身上 The pajamas are red and gray striped.睡衣是红灰条纹的 They’re sitting on a rug.他们坐在毯子上 They’re both smiling.他们都在笑 Let’s do this same thing now with ten seconds of video.我们来看十秒钟的视频 还是做一样的练习 This is a little bit more of a challenge because there’s more going on.这有点挑战 因为发生的事情更多 If it’s too much for you,如果这对你来说太难了 then just clear your mind and just name one object.那就放空大脑 说一件事物的名称就好 If you find you can do that, and there’s still time then come up with one simple sentence.如果你能做到 还有时间 那就想出一个简单的句子 Okay. What did you say about that?好了 你对此视频说了什么? They’re eating. Or they’re about to eat.他们正在吃饭 或他们将要开吃了 Or Rachel is serving food.或瑞秋在端菜 There are lots of different sentences that you could have come up with.你可以想出很多不同的句子 Remember, there’s no right or wrong here.记住 这里没有对错之分 Let’s go back and watch it and we’ll go over a few more sentences回看视频 我们来回顾一些句子 that you might have come up with watching this scene.你还能造出什么句子 Rachel is serving beans and rice.瑞秋在盛豆子和米饭 She’s sitting on a white couch.她坐在一张白色的沙发上 There are two little boys in the video.视频中有两个小男孩 The plate and fork are green.盘子和叉子都是绿色的 It looks like they got takeout.好像他们叫了外卖 Before we move on to the next clip, I want to go over a strategy在我们进行下一段视频之前 我想说明一个方法 that you can use every day to keep working on this skill.你可以每天磨练这项技能 You don’t need to keep watching this video.你不需要一直看这个视频 Go to YouTube, find a video that you like,在油管找一个你喜欢的视频 a person that you like, a channel that you like, and just watch a few seconds of the video, any video,喜欢的人或频道 任何视频 就看几秒钟 then pause it and just describe it as much as you can in as much detail as you can.然后暂停 尽可能多描述你捕捉到的细节 If you can’t describe it, if you can only come up with a few words to say,如果你描述不出来 或只能说几个词 then say those words.那就说一下这些词 And as you do this, your skill will build.这样做 你的技能会得到提高 Now, it’s great if you watch the video in English如果你用英语看这个视频 那很好 because then you’re going to be hearing English,因为你会听到英语 and that’s going to be getting your mind into the English mood for thinking.这会让你的思维进入英语思维的状态 Now if you see something and you want to name it,如果你看到一个东西 想要说出来 you want to describe it, but you don’t know the word,你想描述它 但你不知道那个词 then look it up in your native language in a translating dictionary.那就查阅你的母语的翻译字典 I have no problem with that.我对此没有意见 But then take that word in English, take the new word you’ve learned, 然后用英语记下那个词语 你刚学到的新词 and go to a learner’s dictionary.再查阅初学者词典 That way you can also read the definition only in English, in simplified terms,这样你可以读到它的简化词条的英文释义 so that you can think of the word as an English word.帮助你用英语思考这个单词 You can help yourself learn it by looking at the English definition你可以通过查看英文释义 辅助学习 and then of course, you’ll also remember because you had that visual from watching the video.而且当然 看过那个视频 你会记住它 Write it down, review it every day for a few weeks,把它写下来 在几周内每天复习 then that word will be added to your vocabulary,这样 这个词就会成为你的词汇 and you can start using it again as you are naming objects你可以在说事物名称或思考描述性短语时 or coming up with descriptive phrases,运用它 maybe that word will come up for you again.也许你会再次想起那个词 But this method, the steps to learn to think in English但这个运用英语思维的方法 only work if you do them.只有在你练习的时候起作用 So don’t just do them with me here.因此 不要只是在这里跟我练习 Do them yourself every day. Just a few minutes. Just commit to it.每天自己进行练习 只需投入几分钟 就可以了 Okay, let’s take a look at another ten-second clip.好了 我们来看另一个十秒钟的片段 All right, let’s think of some sentences together.好了 我们一起来思考一些句子 Sawyer is on a tennis court.Sawyer在网球场上 He’s wearing all red.他穿着一身红 He puts a tennis racket in his mouth.他把网球拍放进嘴里 We pushed the racket out of his mouth.我们把网球拍从他嘴里拿出来 He doesn’t seem to care.他似乎并不在意 And that’s it. You can do this. I know you can.就是这样 你能做到的 我知道你可以 The payoff is huge.这个练习收获颇丰 To be able to start thinking in English, to recall words and sentences in English,英语思维技能 用英语回忆单词和句子 and not have to translate in your own head, is going to let you join the conversation so much faster,而不是在脑中做翻译能让你很快加入谈话 you’re going to feel so much more confident,你会感觉更自信 so just do it, put in a little time to train this habit.去做吧 花点时间来培养这个习惯 You’re going to love the payoff.你会获益匪浅 In the next video in this series where we’re training you to think in English,本系列的下个视频 我们会训练你用英语思考 we’re going to be taking a step forward, a step higher, and it’s going to be conversational prompts.更进一步 通过对话性提示来练习 So not just describing sentences, but actually answering a question in the moment.不只是描述句 还要限时回答问题 I make new videos on the English language every Tuesday.我每周二会做英语学习的新视频 Please subscribe with the notifications and come on back. • 2021-08-24常见英语语法错误之介词“to”的用法Hi guys, welcome to the lesson,大家好 欢迎观看这节课 and today we are going to今天我们要 learn about the preposition “to”.学习介词“to” Yes, this is one of the most common prepositions in English,是的 这是英语中最常见的介词之一 and I have seen that my students但我看到我的学生们 face a lot of problem with this preposition.在这个介词上面临很多问题 So I decided to do this lesson for all of you因此我决定为大家制作这节课 so that you can get rid of all your confusion以消除大家的困惑 about where to use “to” and where not to use “to”.搞明白哪里要用“to” 哪里不要用“to” So watch this complete lesson.所以请完整观看这节课 My name is Michelle, and let’s get started.我叫Michelle 让我们开始吧 So here we are guys.我们开始讲解 We have a couple of sentences with us on the board,在白板上有一些例句 and we are going to find out which sentences are correct,我们要找出哪些是正确的 and which sentences are incorrect.哪些是错误的 And for all the incorrect sentences, we’ll try to make them correct.对于那些错误的句子 我们将试着纠正它们 So let’s start with the first one.来从第一个句子开始 What do you think is wrong in this sentence?你们认为这个句子有什么问题? “I’m going the party.”“I’m going the party.” I’m sure for those of you who have been speaking English for some time,我相信对于资深英语学习者来说 you may have already made the correct guess.你们可能已经猜出正确答案了 So the thing is the main verb here is “go”这里的问题在于主动词是“go” and with “go”, we mostly use “to”.而大部分情况下“go”要与“to”搭配 So we will be saying “I’m going to the party.” Okay?因此我们该说“I’m going to the party.” What about if you’re going to “New York”?如果你要去“纽约”又该怎样说呢? You will also add “to” there.你同样要在这加上“to” You’ll say “going to New York”.你该说“going to New York” Okay. And how about “work”?好 那么如果接“work”又该如何? Okay, if you went, as in if you went to work,如果你去过 就像要表达如果你曾去工作 which means you went there in the past,这意味着你过去曾去过那里 so there also we have added “to”.那么我们也要在那加上“to” “went to work”.“went to work” So as you can see正如你们能看到的 that we have used “to” with “go”, alright,我们把“to”与“go”搭配在一起 是的 with “going” and also with “went”.与“going”还有“went”也搭配在一起 So this means with all the forms of “go”,这意味着与“go”的所有形式 we have used “to”.我们都用到了“to”去搭配 Now let’s look at the next sentence现在来看下面这句 and find out if there are some exceptions to this rule, okay?来看看这个规则是否有例外 Read this one. “I’m going to home.”读读这句 “I’m going to home.” What do you think, is this correct or incorrect?你怎么看 这正确还是不正确? Well if you are just a person who has started speaking English,如果你只是个英语初学者 to you, this might seem right.对你来说 这可能看上去是正确的 You might think it’s okay to say that,你可能认为可以那么说 but that is the problem.但是那正是问题所在 Most of my students say,我的大部分学生说 “I am going to home”, which is wrong“I’m going to home.” 是错误的 because we do not use “to” with “home”.因为不能把“to”与“home”搭配在一起 So what we are going to do is,所以我们要做的是 we are going to cut “to” here.要把“to”去掉 Now let’s read it. “I’m going home.”现在来读一下 “I’m going home.” This is a correct and a complete sentence.这才是一个正确且完整的句子 You do not need “to” here.这里不需要“to” Now other than “home”, there are some more words除了“home” 还有其他一些单词 with which you don’t need to add “to”, okay?也不需要用“to”与之搭配 So although we have “go” here, but we do not use “to”.因此尽管这里有“go” 但我们不用“to” The same way if you take for example, the word “somewhere”.如果遇到如“somewhere”之类单词 用法一样 Okay. Can you make a sentence with “go” and “somewhere”?你能用“go”和“somewhere”造个句吗? Okay, let’s try this.我们来尝试一下 “I need to go to somewhere”,“I need to go to somewhere.” or “I need to go somewhere”?还是“I need to go somewhere.”? You need to go somewhere.“You need to go somewhere.” So the same way, we have not used “to” with “somewhere”.同样 我们没用“to”去搭配“somewhere” Now think of another word, think of “inside”.现在想想另一个词 “inside” Please make a sentence with “go” and “inside”.请用“go”和“inside”造个句 “I have to go inside.”“I have to go inside.” So just like “home” and “somewhere”,就像“home”和“somewhere”一样 we have not used “to” with “inside” or “outside”.我们没用“to”与“inside”或“outside”搭配 Now we have another word in English with which we do not use “to”,英语中还有另一个单词不用“to”搭配 and that is “there”.那就是“there” So if you are saying that you need to go “there”,所以如果你说你需要去“there” you will not say “I will need to go to there.”你不会说“I will need going to there.” You will say “I need to go there.”你要说“I need to go there.” So unlike the first one, “I’m going to the party”,不像第一句 “I’m going to the party.” or “I need to go to the party”,或者“I need to go to the party.” you will say “I need to go there”你该说“I need to go there.” and not “I need to go to there”.而不是“I need to go to there.” So other than these, we have another word除了这些 还有另一个词 with which we don’t use “to”,我们不用“to”去搭配 and that is “there”.那就是“there” How about “downstairs” or “upstairs”对于“downstairs”或者“upstairs”又如何呢? as in when you are taking the staircase就像当你要用到楼梯间 or when you’re going upwards,或者当你要去楼上 you always use the stairs.你总是要用到楼梯 So do you say that “I need to go to upstairs”?那么你会说“I need to go to upstairs”吗? No, you say “I need to go upstairs” or “I need to go downstairs”.不 你该说“I need to go upstairs.”或“I need to go downstairs.” Okay so now I hope you have understood the first rule我希望你们现在已理解第一条规则了 that we mostly use “to” with the verb “go”,即大多数情况下“to”与动词“go”搭配用 like this one.就像这一句 But there are some exceptions to this rule.但是这个规则有一些例外 So with words like home, and somewhere,对于一些单词如“home” “somewhere” inside, outside, there, or upstairs, or downstairs,“inside” “outside” “there” 或 “upstairs” 或“downstairs” with all of these words we do not use “to”,对这些单词尽管我们用到了“go” even though we use “go”, okay?也不用“to”去搭配 So I hope this rule has been clear to you.希望你们已经明白了这条规则 Now with this we move to the next rule about using “to”.那么在此基础上 来看“to”的下条规则 Let’s read the sentence.我们读一下这个句子 “We arrived to the airport.”“We arrived to the airport.” What do you think, is there something wrong with it?你们怎么看 它有什么问题吗? Well yes. What is wrong here is that是的 这里错误之处是 we always use “to” with “go”,我们总是用“to”搭配“go” but we don’t use “to” with “arrive”, okay?但不用“to”去搭配“arrive” We never use “to” with “arrive”.我们绝不会用“to”去搭配“arrive” “Arrive” means to reach somewhere, okay?“arrive”意味着到达某个地方 “Arrive” means to reach somewhere.“arrive”意味着到达某个地方 Now let’s read the sentence like this.现在我们像这样读这个句子 “We arrived the airport.”“We arrived the airport.” Oh there’s something still wrong with it, right?哦 这里还是有些问题 对吧? It looks kind of missing and incomplete.它看上去缺了点什么 不完整 “We arrived…” We need a preposition in this sentence, okay?“We arrived…” 需加个介词到该句子里 And for airport because we are using the word “arrived”,且对于机场 由于用了词“arrived” we will use “at”, okay?我们要用“at” Now think about it like this,现在像这样想一下 if you had “go” instead of “arrived”,如果你用“go”代替“arrived” how will you make the sentence?你会如何造这个句? You will say “we went at the airport”你会说“We went at the airport.” or “we need to go to the airport”?还是“We need to go to the airport.”? Yes, it’s okay to use “to” with airport when we have “go”,是的 “go”存在时用“to”连接机场是可以的 but it’s wrong to use “to” with “arrive”, okay?但用“to”搭配“arrive”却不对 So here, we will replace “to” with “at”.所以这里要用“at”去代替“to” Okay, now let’s look at the next sentence.现在来看看下个句子 “When will you arrive to London?”“When will you arrive to London?” So like the previous sentence we will not use “to” with “arrive”.与前句一样 我们不会用“to”与“arrive”搭配 So let’s remove this.因此要去掉这个 How will you complete the sentence?你将如何完善这个句子? “When will you arrive in London?”“When will you arrive in London?” Yes that’s the appropriate preposition here是的 “in”是适合这里的介词 instead of “to”, okay?而不是“to” Great! So this is how we use this.很好 这就是介词运用方法 Now let’s look at the next one.现在来看下一句 “You should to read more books.”“You should to read more books.” What do you think is wrong in this sentence?你们认为这个句子有什么问题? Do we need “to” here or do we not need “to” here?这里是否需要“to”呢? Think about it. Well.想一想 好吧 We don’t need “to” in this sentence.这个句子中我们不需要“to” “You should read more books.”“You should read more books.” So basically, “should” is a form of modal, okay?本质上 “should”是情态动词的一种形式 And with modals we don’t use “to”.而对于情态动词我们不用“to”去搭配 For example,例如 “She will read more books.”“She will read more books.” Okay? You don’t need to add “to” there as well在那你也不需要加上“to” because we already have a modal which is “will” or “should”.因为已有一个情态动词“will”或“should” So that’s why you don’t need to add “to”.那就是你不需要加上“to”的原因 Now let’s look at the next one.再来看看下一句 “I must to take this medicine.”“I must to take this medicine.” So the same rule applies here, okay?这里遵循同样的规则 You will say “I must take this medicine”你该说“I must take this medicine.” and not “I must to take this medicine.”而不是“I must to take this medicine.” But do you know we can change this sentence still?但你可知道该句还可以变换一下? If you want to not change the meaning,如果你不想改变句子的意思 if you want to keep the meaning same and add “to”,如果你想加上“to”且保持原意 then what you will do is “I…”那么你要做的是“I…” You could say “I need to take this medicine.”你可以说“I need to take this medicine.” So you have added “to”, but you have changed the modal verb.这样你就加上了“to” 但也改变了情态动词 So with “must”, you never say “to”,因此对于“must” 你决不能说“to” but with “need” you can say “to”但对于“need”你可以说“to” Okay Now with this, we look at the next one.现在带着这个来看看下一句 “She can to buy a car.”“She can to buy a car.” Again, since you have understood the rule,同样的 既然你理解了这个规则 you will know that we don’t need to add “to” here你就知道这里不需要加上“to” because “can” is a modal verb,因为“can”是一个情态动词 which talks about ability.它与能力有关 So you should say “she can buy a car”因此你该说“she can buy a car” which means that she has the ability to buy a car, okay,意思是她有能力去买辆车 means she may have that much money that she can buy a car.意思是她可能有足够的钱让她能够买辆车 Now we can add “to” to this sentence also,我们也可以在这个句子里加上“to” but for that we need to change the modal verb “can”.但为此我们需要变换情态动词“can” How will we do that?我们该怎么做? You could say你可以说 “she is able to buy a car.”“She is able to buy a car.” Yes, so here we have changed是的 在这我们将情态动词 the modal verb from “can” to “is able”,由“can”变成了“is able” and that’s why we can add “to”.那就是可以加上“to”的原因 But otherwise, when you write “can”,否则 如果你用“can” or when you write “must”, or when you write “should”,或用“must” 或“should” or when you write “will”, you should not use “to”或“will” 你就不应该用“to” because we don’t use “to” with modal verbs.因为我们不用“to”与情态动词搭配 So I hope that rule was clear to you.我希望你们理解了那条规则 Now with this, we look at the next rule about using “to”.学完这个 来看看关于用“to”的下条规则 “The locked door stops people to enter.”“The locked door stops people to enter.” So what do you think is that a correct statement?那么你们认为那是个正确的句子吗? Let’s read it again.再来读一遍 “The locked door stops people to enter.”“The locked door stops people to enter.” Well no, there is a mistake in this sentence.好吧不对 这个句子存在一个错误 Let me help you.我来帮你 “The locked door stops people…”“The locked door stops people…” We will not use “to” with “stop”.我们不会用“to”与“stop”搭配 We never use “to” with the word “stop” or “prevent”.绝不会用“to”与单词“stop”或“prevent”搭配 So what do we do? The sentence is still incomplete.那么我们该怎么做?这个句子仍不完整 “The locked door stops people enter.”“The locked door stops people enter.” We are going to add another word to this sentence我们要在这个句子中多加一个单词 to make it correct, okay?以使其正确 Now this is a correct sentence.现在这是一个正确的句子 “The locked door stops people from entering.”“The locked door stops people from entering.” Yes, so the rule here is that是的 所以这里的规则是 we cannot use “to” with the word “stop” or “prevent”.不能用“to”与单词“stop”或“prevent”搭配 Instead of that, we have an object which is “the locked door”与其那样 因为有“the locked door”这个宾语 and the word we are talking about which is “stops”而且我们讨论的单词是“stops” then we have “from” and the main verb is in “ing”且“from”后的主动词该是动名词形式 so you say “the locked door stops people… “因此你要说“the locked door stops people…” “from entering” and not “enter”, okay.“from entering”而不是“enter” So I hope you understood this rule as well希望你们也理解了这条规则 and with this we move to the next one.学完这个我们去看看下一句 “The boss lets us to leave work early.”“The boss lets us to leave work early.” So do we use “to” with the word “let”? Mm-hmm?那么该用“to”与单词“let”搭配吗?嗯? No. We never use the word “to” with “let”.不 我们绝不用“to”与“let”搭配 So if you see “the boss lets us leave work early”,如果你看见”The boss lets us leave work early.” this is a complete sentence这是一个完整的句子 and there is no mistake in this, okay?而且没有错误 It’s a complete sentence.这是个完整的句子 But if you think of adding the word “allow” in the sentence但如果你想把单词“allow”加进该句 so let’s replace “lets” with “allow”,那么来用“allow”代替“lets” “The boss…”, sorry,“The boss…” 不好意思 “the boss allows us“The boss allows us… leave work early.”leave work early. “ What do you think about the sentence now?现在你们怎么看这个句子? “The boss allows us leave work early.”“The boss allows us leave work early.” Do you think it’s a complete sentence?你认为这是个完整的句子吗? No. Here we will add “to”.不 这里我们要加上“to” So “allows” and “lets” has the same meaning尽管“allows”和“lets”意思相同 just like “must” and “need”, okay?就像“must”和“need”一样 But the catch here is that但这里要注意的是 with “allows” we always use “to”.与“allows”我们总是用“to”去搭配 “The boss allows us to leave work early”,“The boss allows us to leave work early.” which means he lets you leave work early.意思是他让你早点收工 And in the first sentence we do not use “to”在第一句里我们不用“to” because we are using “let”.因为我们用了“let” So do remember that with “let”, we never use “to”所以必须记住 对“let”决不能用“to”去搭配 but we can always use “to” with “allows” or “able” or “need”.但总要用“to”与“allows”或“able”或“need”搭配 Okay, now with this we look at the last sentence for the day好了 学完这个我们来看看今天最后一句 which is “I like to hear to music.”它是“I like to hear to music.” So of course if you’re a beginner level speaker当然 如果你是初学者水平 or if you just started speaking English或者如果你才开始说英语 then you might think this is okay.那么你可能认为这句话是对的 But the catch here is that但这里要注意的是 we don’t use “to” with “hear”, okay?我们不用“to”与“hear”搭配 So the correct sentence would be,所以正确的句子应该是 “I like to hear music”, okay?“I like to hear music.” Now what do you think is another word for “hear”?现在想想还有什么单词代替“hear”? Another word for “hear” is “listen”.代替“hear”的另一单词是“listen” So let’s try to make the sentence with “listen”.来尝试用“listen”去造这个句 “I like to listen music.”“I like to listen music.” Okay, now is this correct? “I like to listen music.”现在正确吗?“I like to listen music.” Well now we need to know that现在我们需要知道 with “listen” we always add “to”, okay?对于“listen”我们总是要加上“to” You will say “I like to listen to music.”你要说“I like to listen to music.” But when you use “hear”, you will say但当你用“hear”时 你要说 “I like to hear music” without a “to”.“I like to hear music”不需加“to” So this is a little bit confusing这有些让人困惑 and these are certain exceptions that但这些就是你们需要 you need to learn and memorize.学习和记住的一些例外 Rewind the video if you’ve not completely memorized the rules若还没完全记得这些规则 请回放该视频 and watch it again so that you can remember the rules properly.并再看一次以便能正确地记住这些规则 So do remember that with the modal verbs like一定要记住 对于情态动词比如 must, should, can, you cannot use “to”.“must” “should” “can” 你不能用“to” But if you want to replace them with “need” or “is able”,但如果你想用“need”或“is able”代替它们 you can use “to” there.你就能用“to” You never use “to” with “arrive”, okay.你绝不用“to”去搭配“arrive” And the same way with “go”, sometimes you can use it对“go”也一样 有时你能用它 but there are exceptions when you cannot use it,但在有些例外情况下你不能用它 for words like home, somewhere, inside, outside.例如在用“home” “somewhere” “inside” “outside”等单词时 And towards the end we learned课程的最后 我们学习了 that we cannot use “to” with “let” or “hear”不能用“to”去搭配“let”或“hear” but at the same time we can use “to” with “allow” or “listen”.但同时却能用“to”与“allow”或“listen”搭配 So this is the end of the lesson guys今天的课程就到这里 and I hope today you have understood我希望你们今天理解了 when to use “to” and when not to use “to”.什么时候用或者不用“to” So I hope you will not make a mistake with this preposition anymore.所以我希望你们不会再在这个介词上犯错 I’ll see you guys very soon in another lesson.我将很快在另一节课上与大家见面 Till then you take care and have fun, bye-bye.在那之前祝你们健康开心 再见
  • 2021-08-24英式英语对话的方式Hello, and welcome back.大家好 欢迎继续收看我的节目 Now, have you ever found it difficult那么 你是不是发现 to start a conversation in English in a formal situation?在正式场合开始一段英文对话很困难? If so, let me help.如果是 让我帮帮你吧 Today I’m going to demonstrate to you guys some real life bad examples今天 我就向大家演示现实生活中 that I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing,我曾有幸见到的一些错误例子 and contrast them with how to do it successfully.然后 和正确的做法进行对比 Have a look at this.来看看这个 询问某人的住处 Here’s how not to ask someone where they live.这是错误的示范 询问某人的住处 Where’s your house?你家在哪里? Okay, so if you want to start a conversation with somebody about where they live,如果你想以询问住址作为交谈的开场白 don’t be so direct.不要太直接 A better example would be,正确的示范是 so, have you come far, or…?你从远处来还是…? Just down the road.这附近 Just down the road?这附近? It’s worth noting that if you ask a British or a European person,要注意 如果你询问英国或欧洲人 they’ll probably respond to you in miles or kilometres,他们可能会用英里或公里来回答你 where as Americans usually respond in minutes and hours.美国人经常以分钟或者小时回答你 谈论天气 Here’s how not to start a conversation about the weather.这是错误的示范 谈论天气 Does the sun make you sweaty?这么热的天 你出汗了吗? Okay, if you want to start a conversation about the weather,如果你想以谈论天气作为交谈的开场白 don’t say this.不要这样说 A much better example would be正确的示范是 I tell you what, it’s getting hot, isn’t it?我说这天越来越热了 是吧? – Really hot. 30 degrees, isn’t it? – yeah.– 确实很热 30度了 是吧? – 是的 And in contrast,相反地 if the weather is bad outside, you could say…如果外面天气很糟糕 你可以说 it’s miserable out there, isn’t it?外面糟透了 是吧? I had a really, really good time. It was amazing.我玩得非常开心 真的挺棒 Here’s now not to ask someone how they know the host.错误的示范 询问别人与主人怎样相识 Do you know someone?你认识那谁吗? So, if you want to start a conversation with someone about how they know the host,如果你想以询问他人和屋主怎样相识作为开场白 this would be a bit weird.这样的开场白有点怪 Instead, a better example would be…正确的示范是 So, sorry, how do you know John?你和John怎样认识的? • 2021-08-24怎么让自己做事有条理So in English, when you say在英语中 当你说 that you have all your ducks in a row,“you have all your ducks in a row” it means that you are organized就是说你很有条理 and ready for something.并且准备好做某事了 Let’s imagine that you’re having a party.想象下 你要举行一个聚会 I always seem to be talking about parties,我似乎总在谈论聚会 but let’s imagine但我们来想象一下 that you are planning a party.你在策划一个聚会 You would want to buy some snacks,你想要买一些零食 you would want to invite people to the party,你想要邀请人们来参加派对 you would want to make sure you have everything that you need你想要确保万事俱备 so that the party goes well.以便聚会顺利进行 You would want to have all your ducks in a row.“You would want to have all your ducks in a row.” You would want to be really organized and well prepared.你想要好好组织并充分准备 I do the same thing whenever I make a video.我每次做视频都会做同样的事情 I write a script for the video,我会为视频写一个脚本 I make sure that my camera batteries are charged,我会确保相机的电池有电 I do a lot of things to make sure that我做很多事情是为了保证 when I go to make my video,我拍录像时 I have all my ducks in a row把一切都安排妥当 so that it goes really, really well.这样拍摄才会非常 非常顺利 So once again, if you have all your ducks in a row,再说一次 如果“you have all your ducks in a row” it means that you are very organized这表示你很有条理 and you are ready to do something.你也准备好了去做某事 I hope you always have all your ducks in a row.我希望你总是把一切都打理好 Because if you don’t,因为如果没有的话 you need to get your act together.那你就需要“get your act together” I think we looked at this phrase a few months ago.我想我们几个月前见过这个词组 In English, if I say to someone在英语中 如果我对某个人说 that they need to get their act together,“They need to get their act together” or if I was to tell you或如果我告诉你 that you need to get your act together,“You need to get your act together” it means that you need to get yourself organized.这表示你需要做事有条理 It means that you need to be better prepared for something.也就是说你需要为做某事做更充分的准备 So I hope that when it comes to learning English,所以我希望在学习英语的时候 you have all your ducks in a row,你们把一切安排好 and I hope that when it comes to learning English,我也希望在学习英语时 you don’t need to get your act together.你不必再去筹划 Anyways, Bob the Canadian here.总之 加拿大人Bob Always talking about parties but,虽然总是谈论聚会 actually, I don’t really have that many parties. (laughs)但事实上 我真的没有那么多聚会 But, it’s always a good example.但这总是一个不错的例子 And I just lost my train of thought.我只是忘记要说什么了 You’re learning English with me.你正在和我学英语 I’m Bob the Canadian,我是加拿大人Bob I hope you’re having a good day.我希望你们有愉快的一天 For a second there, I didn’t have all my ducks in a row.有时我没有把一切安排好 For a moment there, I needed to get my act together.有时我需要好好筹划 Anyways, bye.不管怎么样 拜拜
  • 2021-08-24了解机场标识语Hello, hello, everyone!各位朋友 你们好呀! Are you ready for a vacation?准备好迎接假期的到来了吗? Well, if you are, then come with me.若已准备好 那就接着看下去吧 Because in this video,因为本次视频中 we will be exploring the airport signs and vocabulary,我们将共同学习机场的标识语和词汇 so you begin your holidays in the best possible way.以便你用最佳方式开启假日 Okay, Maria, show me what you just learnt.Maria 让我看看你学了些什么 Ready…预备…… Go!开始! Okay, so the very first thing I will do is…好的 那么我要做的第一件事是…… First thing I will do is to arrive at the airport with my luggage,首先 抵达机场 我需要带上行李箱 carry-on bag, my boarding pass if I check in online,随身背包 登机牌-如已网上登记 and my passport or ID.以及护照和身份证 I can check if my carry-on baggage has the appropriate measurements in the carry-on baggage tester.在随身行李检测器上检查背包是否超重 Or if my baggage如果我的包 doesn’t exceed the weight limit in the luggage weighing and packing table,在行李打包称重台上没有超重 I can go to the self check in就可以去自助登记处办理值机 or to the check-in area and search the airline I travel with.或到登机区查询我的航班信息 There, I will get my boarding pass and I will drop off my baggage.在这里我会拿到登机牌 然后放置行李 If I carry a really big baggage or object,如果我携带的行李或物品过大 I should go to the oversized international baggage drop-off.那就要到超重行李国际托运处托运行李 The next step is emmigration, because I’m travelling abroad.接下来是出入境管理处 因为我是境外游 Well, you cannot enter with me there,嗯 这里你就不能和我一起进去了 but probably I will be asked some questions,但是我可能会被问到以下几个问题 like what’s your occupation?比如您从事什么职业? What is the purpose of your trip?您此次旅行的目的是什么呢? Where will you stay?您将在哪里停留? How long do you intend to stay?您预计停留多长时间? After going through security,等过完安检 I will have to check the status of my flight,我必须确定我的航班状态 and I can do it by watching the screens that are basically all over the airport.我能通过那些遍布机场的屏幕进行查看 It could be on time, if it will take off as the schedule.如果飞机准点起飞 状态栏会显示准时 Delayed, if it will take more time than expected to take off.如果飞机晚点 则会显示延迟 Boarding, if the passengers are already entering the plane.如果乘客们已在登机 则显示正在登机 Flight closed, if the plane doors have closed already.如果机舱门已关闭 则会显示登机截止 Or cancelled, if it won’t take off at all for a particular reason.如因特定原因无法起飞 则航班取消 By watching the screen, I will also be able to check which is the gate number for my flight,通过屏幕 我还能确定我是哪个登机口 and this way, I know where to go to finally wait in the departure lounge and be ready to fly.这样我就知道去哪个候机室等待起飞 Great!非常好! Yeah, it wasn’t that hard.是啊 这也不是多难嘛 I mean, what could go wrong?我想说 这能出什么错呢? Let’s call Maria to check how is her trip.打给Maria 看看她旅行得怎样 Hey, Maria. How was your flight?嗨 Maria 旅行顺利吗? Oh, Sofia, hey!噢 Sofia 你好呀! Oh, cool.嗯 很好 Well, everything was easy,嗯 一切都很简单 but I think I focused on watching these instructions When I was reclaiming the baggage,但我觉得取行李时我一直专注于指示语 I didn’t realise that somebody else had a similar one,完全没想到会和别人撞箱 and well…嗯…… I’m sure this is not mine.我确定这个不是我的东西 I hope it has been useful, guys.希望以上内容能有所帮助 Thumbs up, if you like it. • 2021-08-24NOTHING SPECIAL的用法So in English when you describe something as being”nothing special.” 英语中当用“nothing special”描述一件事情时 You are saying that it’s just an ordinary thing.意思是 它只是一件普通的事 That there is nothing amazing about it.没有什么让人惊奇的地方 There is nothing extraordinary about it. 没什么特殊的地方 There’s nothing special about it. 没什么特别的地方 So if I was to say my van is “nothing special.” 所以如果我说我的货车是“nothing special” It means that my van is just an ordinary van.意思是 我的货车只是辆普通的货车 There is nothing amazing about it it’s an old van.它没有让人惊奇的地方 只是一辆旧货车 It gets ok gas mileage. 它耗油量还行 But it’s nothing special.但没什么特别的 You could also say” there’s nothing special about my van.”你也可以说”There ‘s nothing special about my van.” So a slightly different way to use the phrase.这是该短语的一种略微不同的用法 You could also use this to describe people.你也可以用它来描述人 Maybe your cousin is dating a new guy and she says,比如你的表妹正在和新男友约会 她会说 “Ah he’s nothing special, he’s just an ordinary guy,“Ah he’s nothing special, he’s just an ordinary guy. “He is nothing special.” He is nothing special.” It’s not a great way to describe someone. 这样来描述人不太好 But we duly use this phrase to describe people as well as things. 但我们的确会用这个词形容人和物 So when you say that something or someone is nothing special当你说某物或某人“nothing special”时 It means that they are just ordinary.意思是他们很普通 We have another phrase though,如果你想要描述事物很惊人 if you want to describe something as being amazing.我们有另一种表达方式 And that’s to say that it is something else.它就是 “it is something else” So if I bought a brand new van.比如我买了一辆崭新的货车 And it had all of the bells and whistles,它拥有各种花里胡哨的配置 that means it has all of the cool things那意味着 它拥有货车上你能买到的 that you can buy in a van.所有很棒的配置 I could say that my van is something else.我可以说“My van is something else.” I could say, “That van is something else,”可以说”That van is something else.” and what that would mean is that i think my van is amazing. 意味着我觉得我的车是令人惊艳的 that is extraordinary ,卓越的 that it’s just the coolest van that you can buy.它就是你能买到的最酷的货车 My van is something else.我的货车是很棒的 My van isn’t actually something else.事实上我的货车并不是很棒 I usually just buy old, used vehicles.我通常只买旧的二手车 And just enjoy them for what they are.并且只是享受它们本身的价值 So anyways, if you say that something is nothing special.总之 如果你说某物是“nothing special”的 It means it’s just ordinary.意思是它很普通 And if you say that something is “something else.”然而如果你说某物是“something else” It means that it’s amazing.意思是它令人惊叹 You know you can also use this for people,要知道你也能把“something else”用于人 you can say, “He’s something else.”你可以说 “He’s something else.” Anyways, Bob the Canadian here.好了 我是加拿大Bob And you’re learning English with me.和我一起学习英语吧

  • 2021-08-24一种语言,三种口音-英国VS美国VS澳大利亚英语!(upbeat music)[音乐] – Hello everyone and welcome back to English with Lucy.大家好 欢迎回到《跟Lucy学英语》 I have got such a treat for you today!今天我为你们准备了一场盛宴 I’ve been excited about this for such a long time.我已经为此激动了很长时间 I am shortly going to welcome two lovely guests让我简单地欢迎一下我的两位好朋友 who have generously given their time她们愿意抽出时间 to help teach you the differences来帮助大家理解 between Australian English, American English, and British English.澳式英语 美式英语 以及英式英语之间的区别 This is going to be a two-part series,这一系列分为两个部分 today, we are going to focus on vocabulary今天 我们将关注词汇部分 and then in the next part of the video,然后在下半部分的视频里 we are focusing on pronunciation.我们会关注发音部分 We may all speak the same language: English,我们使用的是同一种语言:英语 but we have very different accents但我们有不同的口音 and we speak with different vocabularies.并且我们会用不同的词汇来表达 So this video is perfect for improving your vocabulary因此这个视频非常适合用来提高你的词汇量 but if you want to improve your pronunciation and your listening skills even further,但如果你想进一步提高发音和听力水平 then I highly recommend the special method of那么我强烈推荐一种特殊的方法: combining reading books whilst listening to their audiobook counterpart on Audible.看书的同时在Audible上听对应的有声书 This is how you use the method.这种方法应该这样使用 Take a book that you have already read in English拿出一本你已经读过的 or a book that you would like to read in English,或者想要读的英文书 I’ve got plenty of recommendations down below in the description box,我在下面的描述框中推荐了许多书目 and read that book whilst listening to the audiobook version on Audible.然后在Audible上一边看书一边听有声书的版本 Reading alone will not help you with your pronunciation仅靠阅读并不会对你的发音有所帮助 because English isn’t a strictly phonetic language.因为英语不是一种音形严格一致的语言 The way a word is written in English在英语中 一个单词的拼写 may not give you much indication at all as to how it’s pronounced in English.可能并不会提示它的读音 But if you listen to a word但如果你听见一个单词 at the same time as reading it,同时把它读出来 your brain will start making connections.你的大脑就会开始建立联系 And the next time you hear that word,下次听到这个单词的时候 you’ll know exactly how it’s spelt,你就能准确地知道怎样拼写了 and the next time you see that word written down,并且下一次看到这个单词时 you’ll know exactly how it’s pronounced.你也会清楚地知道它怎样发音 It is such an effective method这是一个很有效的方法 and the best part is you can get one free audiobook,而且最棒的是 你可以得到一本免费的有声书 that’s a 30-day free trial on Audible,即Audible的30天免费试用 all you’ve got to do is on the link in the description box and sign up.你需要做的就是点击描述框里的链接并注册 I’ve got loads of recommendations down there for you.我在视频下方也为你们推荐了许多书目 Right, let’s get on with the lesson and welcome our guests.好了 进入今天的课堂 欢迎我们的两位客人 Firstly, I would like to welcome Emma to the channel.首先 欢迎Emma来到这我们的频道 – Hey there, I’m Emma from the mmmEnglish YouTube channel,嗨 我在这 我是YouTube上《mmmEnglish》频道的Emma coming at you from Perth in Western Australia.来自于西澳大利亚的珀斯 – And we also have Vanessa.还有Vanessa – Hi I’m Vanessa and I live in North Carolina in the U.S..嗨 我是Vanessa 我住在美国的卡罗莱纳州 I run the YouTube channel Speak English With Vanessa.我在YouTube 上开设了《与Vanessa说英语》的频道 – It’s so lovely to have Emma and Vanessa on the channel.很高兴Emma和Vanessa能来到我们的频道 I’ve known Emma for a very, very long time,我已经认识Emma很长时间了 four years now到现在已经有四年了 and I’ve recently got to know Vanessa.然后最近认识了Vanessa Both of them have fantastic YouTube channels她们都开设了非常棒的YouTube频道 and all of their information is in the description box if you want to follow them.如果你想关注她们 视频下方的描述中有她们的信息 So I have got some pictures我准备了一些图片 and Vanessa, Emma and I are going to tell you我和Vanessa还有Emma将会告诉你 how we would say what’s in these pictures in our own country.在我们自己的国家会怎样表达图片里的东西 You might be surprised at some of the answers.你也许会为一些答案感到吃惊 Okay, so let’s start with this one.好了 让我们从这张图片开始 – In the U.S. these are chips, 100% just chips.在美国 这些叫chips 百分百是chips – I can’t believe you started with this one.真不敢相信你从这个开始 These are chips.这些是chips – We call these crisps, crisps.我们把这些叫做crisps 薯片 – The other word that you used, Lucy,Lucy 你用的那个词 is the most complicated word in the English language to say.是英语中发音最复杂的一个单词 So let’s just call them chips and move along.所以我们还是就叫它们chips吧 继续下一个吧 – Yeah, I’ll give you that one.是的 我同意你的说法 Crisps is a notoriously difficult word for learners of English.对英语学习者来说 crisps这个词是出了名的难 It’s the sps sound at the end, crisps.crisps的末尾发“sps”的音 You’ll find a lot of people mispronouncing them as crips,你会发现许多人都误把它发成“crips” crips, when they should be crisps.应该发成“crisps” So here is the next one and it gets even more complicated来看下一张 它可能会更复杂 because in the UK we call these chips.因为在英国 我们叫它们chips So in the U.S., the cold version is chips在美国 凉的那种薯片叫chips and in the UK the hot version is chips.而在英国 把热的薯条叫chips Let’s see it what Vanessa has to say about this.来看看Vanessa有什么看法 What does she call them?她会怎样称呼它们呢? – These are French fries.这些是French fries I know that they’re not really French我知道它们的确不是法国的 but we still call them French fries但我们还是把它们叫做French fries or you can just say fries by themselves.或者你可以直接喊它们fries – The next one’s chips as well, right? They’re hot chips. 这也是chips 对吗?是hot chips – Hot chips, oh my god!Hot chips!我的天哪 Hot chips, Australians just call everything chips then.hot chips 看来澳大利亚人把所有东西都叫chips It is worth noting that if you go to England如果你要去英国 这很值得记下来 and you order fries or French fries,这样你要是想点炸薯条的话 we know exactly what you mean.我们就能准确地明白你的意思了 Okay, next we have this one.好 下面来看这幅图 – We call these cookies我们会叫这些饼干cookies or chocolate chip cookies specifically.或者具体一点 是chocolate chip cookies – Okay they are biscuits.好的 这些是biscuits Don’t really hear people saying cookie.并不会真的听见有人说cookie – Yes, two against one!很好 2比1 These for us are biscuits as well这些对我们来说也是biscuits and we would use cookie to refer to an American style,并且我们会用cookie表示美式曲奇 normally, chocolate chip cookie.通常会说chocolate chip cookie However if you use the word biscuit in the United States,不过 如果你在美国使用biscuit这个词 you might get something that you are not expecting.你可能会得到意料之外的东西 Vanessa has more on this.Vanessa肯定有要说的 – If you ask someone, “Do you have any biscuits?” or, “I want a biscuit,”如果你问一个人有biscuits吗?或者“我想要一些biscuits ” they would not give you this,他们不会给你这个 instead they’d give you a savoury kind of相反 他们会给你一种咸味的 fluffy type piece of bread.蓬松型的面包 A biscuit is savoury and a cookie is sweet.biscuit是咸的而cookie是甜的 – So there we have it. If you fancy something sweet with your coffee in America,也就是说 如果你在美国想要一些甜食来配咖啡 don’t ask for a biscuit.千万不要说biscuit You will be bitterly disappointed.否则你会非常失望的 Okay, Vanessa got very passionate about this next one.好的 Vanessa对下一个很有兴趣 Very passionate.非常有兴趣 Here is the picture.来看看这张图片 Vanessa seems to thinkVanessa似乎在想 that she knows the absolute correct answer她知道最正确的答案 and she’s even done research.甚至还做过研究 I did not expect Emma and Vanessa我没想到Emma和Vanessa to get books out for this video.还为了这个视频拿出书来 – I have the proof that my answer is the most correct我有证据证明我的答案是最正确的 because you can see my two-year-old son is obsessed with trucks,因为你瞧 我两岁的儿子已经被卡车吸引了 we have so many truck books. Let me read to you.我们有许多关于卡车的书籍 我来读给你听 What truck do you need?你需要什么样的卡车呢? A tractor trailer.A tractor trailer So this is also what I would call it a tractor trailer.所以这也就是为什么我会叫它tractor trailer I might call it a semi.我可能会叫它semi – Alright, that yellow thing is a truck.嗯 这个黄色的东西是truck – So Vanessa thinks it’s a tractor trailerVanessa认为这是一辆tractor trailer and she’s very, very sure about it.她对此非常肯定 – In all of these books, they call it a tractor trailer在所有的相关书籍中 人们都称它tractor trailer so we’re gonna go with that one.所以我们都这么说 – That really tickled me.这真让我感到好笑 – Emma thinks it’s a truck.Emma认为它叫truck In the UK we would call this a lorry, a lorry.在英国我们称它为lorry 卡车 – It’s a truck.这就是truck – Whatever Emma, it’s a lorry.不管你怎么说 Emma 它就是lorry Okay, what about this next one?好 那下一张图片呢? What have the women got up here?这些女士头上这一块有什么呢? – These girls all have bangs.她们都有刘海 bangs – We would definitely say fringe.我们当然会说fringe Bangs is probably becoming more popular,也许bangs这个说法变得更流行了 especially colloquially.尤其是在口语里面 – So in the UK, we definitely call this a fringe在英国 我们绝对会叫这个fringe and when I started hearing the word bangs in movies and things like that,而且刚开始我在电影里听见bangs以及类似的词时 I was really genuinely confused.我真的非常困惑 Okay, what about this next one?好的 那么这个呢? – This is candy.这是糖果 candy – They are lollies, lollies.它们是lollies 就是lollies – Lollies, that is so cute!lollies 这个说法真有趣 So in British English these are sweets.在英式英语中 这些叫sweets Or sometimes if you’re talking to a child,或者有时候你和一个小孩子说话 they might call them sweeties.大家会叫他们sweeties Lollies for us are sweets on a stick.lollies对我们来说是一种穿在棍上的糖果 Right, what about this next one?好 下一个又是什么呢? – This is a swimsuit.这是一件泳衣 swimsuit Some people might call it a bathing suit,一些人可能会喊它bathing suit you can also call this a one-piece.你也可以叫它“one-piece” – Okay, this one’s really funny.好吧 这个还真有趣 In Melbourne where I’m from,在我的家乡墨尔本 it’s really common to call them togs通常把它们叫做togs but no one else in Australia really calls them togs,但没有澳大利亚人会真的称它们为togs they call it swimmers.他们会叫它swimmers In Sydney they call them cozzies or costumes在悉尼 人们会称其为cozzies 或者costumes but generally it’s swimmers or bathers.但通常都是swimmers或者bathers Oh gosh, that’s another one, bathers or swimmers.天哪 bathers或swimmers……那就是另一种东西了 – On my word, I did not expect to receive说实话 我没有想到会听到 so many different ways of saying swimming costume.这么多表达泳衣的方式 This for us is a swimming costume.这对于我们来说是swimming costume We can also say one-piece我们也会叫它one-piece and we can also shorten it down to cozy.而且也会简称它为cozy I remember my mum saying, “get your cozy on,” before my swimming lessons when I was a child我记得小时候上游泳课前 我妈妈会说 “穿上你的泳衣” but that’s quite a childish thing.不过那是很小时候的事了 Okay, what about this next one?好的 下一个呢? – This is the forest.这是一片树林 forest – That is definitely a forest.当然是forest – No!不是! It’s the woods, woods, plural.这是woods 复数形式的 woods This is definitely the woods.一定是woods I mean in general we say the woods.我是说 一般情况下我们会说woods Forest implies a huge, huge areaforest是指大片大片的 of trees, of woodland.树木和林地 – The woods sounds kind of like something you might hearwoods听起来有点像是你会在 in an old-fashioned fairy tale.一个很古老的童话故事里听到的东西 – Yeah well, Vanessa,没错 Vanessa sometimes life in England is like an old-fashioned fairy tale.有时候 在英国的生活就像是一种古老的童话故事 I think a lot of Americans have this vision of England我想很多美国人都对英国有这种看法 as a place with so much culture and history,认为英国是一个有着深厚文化和悠久历史的地方 like a fairy tale, and then they come over就像童话一样 然后他们来到这里 and they are just so disappointed.然后就会感到非常失望 Okay what about this next one?好 那么这一个呢? – This is a bathroom.这是一个卫生间 bathroom You might say it’s a restroom你可能会说这是restroom but it would be really unusual to call a place但通常人们都不会 that actually has a bathtub a restroom.把一个有浴缸的地方称作restroom Usually we use the term restroom for public places.我们经常会用restroom这个词表示公共场所 – That room is a bathroom.这个房间是bathroom Yeah, it’s a bathroom.没错 bathroom – Okay, so Vanessa touched on restroom and bathroom.看来restroom和bathroom这两个词Vanessa都使用过 Now we would never use the word restroom in British English.在英式英语中 我们不使用restroom一词 If we were in a public place如果在公共场所 and we are looking for a bathroom, we would say toilet.想找一个卫生间 我们会说toilet However, if there is a bath there, like a bathtub,不过 如果有那里有一个洗澡的地方 比如浴缸 then yes, we might say bathroom as well.那么当然 我们也会说bathroom But we would ask where’s the toilet.但我们会问toilet在哪 – If you say where’s the toilet,如果你问toilet在哪 most people in the US would just say,大多数美国人会说 “It’s in the bathroom.”在“bathroom”里面 – I mean she is not wrong.我想她没说错 The toilet is in the bathroom.马桶确实是在卫生间里 There is also a slang word which I use a lot还有一个俚语我们也会经常用到 which is the loo, where’s the loo.就是“loo” loo在哪里 I went to the States for a business trip我去过美国出差 and I asked people where the loo was然后问人们“loo”在哪 and they were utterly confused.他们十分疑惑 “The loo, what’s the loo?”“the loo?” “loo”是什么? All right let’s move on to the next.来继续看下一个 – This is an apartment.这是一间公寓 apartment This is mostly called an apartment.这通常被称为apartment – We would never say flat.我们从来不说flat – Okay so in British English this is a flat.好的 英式英语中这个叫flat We have a block of flats,我们会说一排flat I’ve lived in many flats in my life.我这一辈子住过很多flat We don’t use the word apartment.我们不用apartment这个词 Okay the next one.好的 下一个 Maybe the picture wasn’t clear enough for this one可能这张图片不是特别清晰 because Emma did get a bit confused因为Emma有点糊涂了 but she gave us all of the options, good old Emma.但她给了我们所有的选项 可爱的Emma – This is a grocery store.这是个grocery store – I’m not exactly sure what I’m looking at in that image我不是很确定我在图片上看到的是什么 but it could be a trolley, it could be an aisle,可以是一辆手推车 可以是过道 or it could be a supermarket.或者是一个超市 supermarket – A bingo, it’s a supermarket for us as well,答对了 这个对我们来说也叫supermarket or we call it the shops.或者叫它shops 商店 I’m going to the supermarket; I’m going to the shops.我打算去超市 我打算去商店 The shops is more general, it could mean any type of shop.shop的用法更广泛 它可以是任何类型的商店 We would never say grocery store.我们从不说grocery store We might however say grocers, the grocers.不过可能会说grocers This is a shop that just sells fruits and vegetables.这种店只卖水果和蔬菜 All right, next one.很好 下一个 – This is a comforter.这个是comforter – Oh my god, how weird is the word comforter?天啊 comforter?好奇怪的单词 That’s weird.太奇怪了 In Australia that’s called a doona.在澳大利亚 这个叫doona – I love that Emma is saying我同意Emma的说法 that the word comforter is weirdcomfort这个词是很奇怪 and then she goes to say that in Australia it’s a doona.然后她说在澳大利亚这个叫doona That’s weirder, Emma.那个更奇怪 Emma So in British English this is a duvet, a duvet,在英国 这是一个duvet 被子 which apparently Vanessa finds weird.很明显Vanessa认为这个词很怪 See we will find each other weird.我们都觉得对方的叫法奇怪 I didn’t know what a duvet was, maybe I’m very sheltered,我不知道duvet是什么 可能我被保护的太好了 but I didn’t know what a duvet was until I visited Europe.直到我去了欧洲才知道duvet是什么 We just do not have those in the U.S.美国没有这个词 – Okay I feel there’s gonna be a lot of conflict about this next one.很好 我感觉下一个的用词会有很大的差异 – These are bell peppers.这些是bell peppers – Okay they’re capsicums; red, green, yellow capsicums.它们是capsicums 红椒 青椒还有黄椒 – No!不是! They’re just plain old peppers.他们只是普通的老甜椒 peppers Red peppers, green peppers, and yellow peppers.红椒 青椒和黄椒 Capsicum, what?capsicum 那是什么? This isn’t Latin, this is English.我们可没在讨论拉丁语 这是英语 Okay another one that’s gonna cause a bit of conflict.下一张的叫法还是会有矛盾 – These are rain boots,这些是rain boots and also the jacket that goes with it is a raincoat or a rain jacket.与之搭配的外套是一件雨衣或者雨夹克 I guess in the U.S. we like really clear,我认为在美国 我们真的很喜欢 straight forward names for items like this.直接明了地给这样的东西命名 Rain boots, what’s it for?雨靴 用来干什么的呢? It’s for the rain, it’s very clear, boots for the rain.是为了防雨 很明显雨靴就是为下雨天准备的 – I mean she’s not wrong, is she?我想她没说错 不是吗? American English is sometimes more simplified than British English美式英语有时比英式的更简洁 and this is no bad thing, really.这确实不是件坏事 Let’s see what Emma has to say.来听听Emma会说什么 – When it’s muddy and rainy, I would put my gumboots on当路上泥泞和下雨的时候 我会穿上我的gumboots to walk around in the wet.在湿的路上行走 – Yeah, I mean we would we never say gumboots.嗯 我想我们绝不会用gumboots这个词 I think I’ve heard my grandma say it我觉得我听过我的祖母说到过它 so it might be quite an old-fashioned thing.所以它可能是一个很老式的表达 In British English we say wellies or wellie boots.英式英语中我们会说wellies 或者wellie boots Are you ready for this next one, are you ready?你们准备好看下一张了吗?准备好了吗? Because what Australians call these is frankly因为澳大利亚人的叫法实在是 shocking.让人惊讶 Let’s hear from Vanessa first.先听Vanessa怎么说 – These are flip-flops.它们是flip-flops – Yeah, these are flip-flops, Emma.没错 这些是flip-flops Emma What do you call them?你会怎么叫它们呢? When we go to the beach in Australia we wear our thongs.在澳大利亚 我们去海滩时会穿上我们的thongs Our thongs, it’s pluralthongs 复数形式的 and we’re talking about the shoes on our feet, they are thongs.当我们谈到脚上穿的鞋时 就是thongs – So I have to explain to you what thongs,我必须向你解释一下什么是thongs what a thong is in British English and American English.在英式和美式英语中thongs是什么意思 A thong is like a G-string.thong是丁字裤 It’s a type of underwear where there is just one string是一种后面只有一条线的内衣 at the back instead of more fabric.没有其他的布 If Emma said to me, “Can I borrow some thongs?”如果Emma跟我说 “可以借我给几件thongs吗” I would probably lend her some我可能会借给她 but I’d be a bit concerned.但我会有点担心 Okay, next one, where would you go to fill up your car?下一张 你们会去哪里给车加油呢? – This is a gas station where you put gas into your car.这是一个gas station 在这里给车子加油 – So when I fill up my car,要给车加油时 I fill it up at the petrol station.我是在petrol station – Ah, good, I am with Emma again on this one.啊 很好 我和Emma的答案又一次一样了 She’s redeeming herself after the thong situation.在丁字裤事件后 她要弥补了 Yes, we also call this a petrol station.是的 我们也叫petrol station The fuel that we put into our car is petrol.往汽车里加的是汽油 petrol I spent much of my childhood confused我小时候很长一段时间都很迷惑 but I was especially confused by the fact但我尤其迷惑的是 that Americans put gas into their car美国人居然把气体加到汽车里 ’cause I thought well petrols are liquid.因为我坚信汽油是液体的 Turns out it’s just short for gasoline.看来那只可能是gasoline的简称了 Now the next one’s quite interesting,下一个更有趣 I want to know what they call a shop我想知道她们会怎样称呼 that only sells alcohol,一个只卖酒的商店 and this is interesting because in America,而且有趣的是 在美国 their attitude towards alcohol is slightly different.他们对酒的态度有些不同 We’re very open,我们非常包容 maybe too open to alcohol in the UK and Australia.也许在英国和澳洲对酒十分包容 The alcohol is more controlled by the government in the States, in the United States.在美国 酒制品更多会被政府管控 – This is an ABC store which I just learned这是一个ABC商店 我刚刚了解过 ’cause I just looked it up, it stands for alcohol beverage controlled state.因为我刚才查了查 ABC代表酒精饮品的管控状态 So this is a story that sells only alcohol这种店只卖酒制品 and that last word state is because而且最后一个单词state 是因为 it is run by the state or run by the government.这种店由国家或者政府经营 – Now let’s see what Emma calls it because I have heard现在我们来听听Emma怎么称呼它 因为我之前听到 that Australians have some fun names for places like these.澳洲人对这样的店有很多好玩的叫法 – When I go and get a bottle of wine,我要去买酒时 I go to the bottle shop,我会去bottle shop which in Australia we also call the bottle-o.在澳大利亚我们也称它bottle-o – Bottle-o, love it!bottle-o 我喜欢这个! It would sound so stupid in a British accent.在英式口音里听起来真的好蠢 I’m just going to the bottle-o,我要去bottle-o do you need anything?你们需要带点什么吗? Bottle-o, yeah it only works reallybottle-o 这个词只有 when you pronounce your t as d, bottle-o.你把t的音发成d的时候 才能知道它的意思 In British English,在英式英语里 we call this an off licence, an off licence.我们会说off license Okay what about this next one?好 那么下一个呢? I feel like I’m going to get ganged up on here.我感觉这个我会和你们一样了 – These are pants.这是长裤 pants – Pants, pants.pants pants Old people might call them trousers.上了年纪的人可能会说trousers – Well excuse me, I must be very old then不好意思 那我一定是很老了 because these are hands down trousers, they are trousers.因为一直传下来的说法就是trousers 这是trousers We do use the word pants to refer to underpants.我们会用pants这个词指衬裤 Oh, ’cause they go under your pants,哦 因为它们在你的裤子里面 yeah maybe they are right.是啊 可能他们才是对的 My whole life has been a lie.我的一生都是个谎言 Underpants ’cause they go under your pants.underpants 因为他们在你的pants里面 Ugh, undertrousers, doesn’t work, does it?嗯 undertrousers 这样说就不行 对吗? Well anyway, these are trousers and I’m not old, Emma, yet.好吧 不管怎么说 这就是trousers 但我可还没老 Emma Now what do we call this?现在看这张 我们怎么称呼它呢? The little walking space beside a road.一条路旁边的步行空间 – This is a sidewalk.这是sidewalk – The concrete beside the road where people walk道路旁边人们行走的水泥地 in Australia is called a footpath.在澳大利亚叫做footpath – Interesting, we don’t say either of these,有意思 这两个词我们都不说 we say pavement, pavement.我们说pavement Now we would never say sidewalk, we do say footpath,我们从来不说sidewalk 我们说footpath but a footpath is normally not beside a road.但正常情况下footpath不会在路旁边 A pavement is just beside a roadpavement才在路旁 and a footpath is anywhere else.而footpath到处都会有 Okay, another car related one, what do we call this?好的 这一张跟车有关系 要叫它什么呢? – This is a highway or you could call it an interstate.这是一条highway 或者你也可以叫它interstate – A highway or maybe a freeway in Australia.在澳大利亚 这是一条highway 或者freeway – Ooh, we don’t say either of these either.喔 这两个我们说法都没有 We never say highway in British English.在英式英语中我们从不说highway Interstate, well we don’t have statesinterstate?我们没有state so that doesn’t work either.所以也不会这样说 Freeway, no.freeway?不可能 Freeway sounds dangerous, freeway听起来很危险 it sounds like you can do whatever you want.听起来好像你想干什么就可以干什么 You’re just free to drive however you like.你想怎么开就怎么开 Thank you so much to Emma and Vanessa非常感谢Emma和Vanessa for coming on this channel and help with this video来到这一频道并对此视频提供帮助 As I said before我在前面说过 I’ve left all of their information in the description box.她们的所有信息我都已经放到描述框里了 Make sure you watch the other video请确保自己会看同系列的 in this two-part series on pronunciation.两部分视频中另一个关于发音的视频 So we’re going to be focusing on the same words我们会关注那些相同单词 that are pronounced differently in each accent.在每个口音中发音不同的词 Don’t forget to check out Audible,不要忘了查看Audible you can get your free audiobook, that’s a 30-day free trial.在上面你可以得到免费的有声书以及30天的免费试用 All you’ve got to do is on the link in the description box to sign up.你需要做的就是点击描述框中的链接并注册 And don’t forget to connect with me on all of my social media.还有 不要忘记在我的社交平台上联系我 I’ve got my Facebook, my Instagram and my Twitter,我有脸书 Instagram 以及推特 and I Shall see you soon for another video.很快我们就可以在另一个视频中相见了
  • 2021-08-24I’m all for it是什么意思?So in English, when you say, “I’m all for it!”,在英语中 你说“I’m all for it!” it means that you’re saying yes,这表示你赞成 but you’re saying it in an enthusiastic way.但你用一种非常热情的方式说出来 It means that you are pretty excited这表明你对别人向你提出的建议 about whatever someone is suggesting to you.感到非常兴奋 If Jen was to say to me I think we should buy a boat如果Jen对我说 我觉得我们应该买艘船 so that we can go boating on the river,那样 我们就可以在河上划船 I could respond by saying, “I’m all for it!”,我可以回答他 “I’m all for it!” although I don’t really wanna spend money on a boat,虽然我不是真的想花钱买船 but if I was excited about buying a boat但如果我对买船这事很激动 so that we could go on the river with a boat,那样 我们可以在河上划船 I would respond to Jen by saying, “I’m all for it!”,我会回答Jen “I’m all of it!” and again, that simply means not only do I agree,这里 不仅表示我同意 but I agree wholeheartedly.而且我完全同意 Did I do that phrase yet, wholeheartedly?我说过“wholeheartedly”这个词吗? When you agree wholeheartedly,当你 agree wholeheartedly时 it means that you definitely agree.表示你相当同意 So once again,所以 再来一次 if you were to agree with someone enthusiastically,如果你非常赞同某个人 if you were super happy about what someone is suggesting to you,如果你对某人提的建议感到非常高兴 you could say to them, “I’m all for it!”,你可以对他们说 “I’m all for it!” and then they’ll know for sure that you agree with them.那么 他们就确定你赞同他们 We have another phrase that means almost exactly the same thing.还有一个和这句意思基本相同的句子 In fact, it’s pretty much a direct replacement.事实上 这句完全可以直接替换 You could say, “I’m all in!”你可以说 “I’m all in!” So if Jen, again, was to say we should buy a boat…因此 如果Jen对我们说 我们应该买船 Maybe we should buy a canoe.或许我们应该买独木舟 We should buy a boat so we can go boating on the river,我们应该买船 这样我们就可以在河里划船 I could say, “I’m all in!”我可以说 “I’m all in!” I’m totally into that, and that would mean that I agree with her,我非常赞同 这也表明我同意她的观点 and I’m excited, and I would want to do that.我很兴奋 我也想那样做 Should we buy a boat?我们应该买船吗? Right now, the river is frozen solid.现在 河流结冰了 I think it would be a little difficult to go boating.我认为划船有些困难 It might be easier to go ice-skating right now,现在 去滑冰可能会更简单些 but I think the ice is a little bit too thin.但我觉得冰又太薄了 Anyways, if you say to someone in English, “I’m all for it!”不管怎样 如果你用英语对某人说 “I’m all of it!” or if you say to them in English, “I’m all in!”,或用英语对他们说 “I’m all in!” it means that you agree with them,这表示你同意他们 and you would be happy to do而且很乐意去做 what they are suggesting that you do.他们建议你做的事情 Anyways, I’m Bob the Canadian,不管怎样 我是加拿大的Bob and you’re learning English with me every day.每天跟我学习英语 I hope you’re having a good day.我希望你拥有美好的一天
  • 2021-08-24IT GROSSES ME OUT是什么意思?So in English if I say, “It grosses me out,”当我们用英语说“It grosses me out” it means that the thing I am talking about意思是我提到的这个东西 is something that I find disgusting.令我感到恶心 Probably the thing that grosses me out the most可能对我而言 最“grosses me out”的东西 would be rotten food.是腐烂的食物 I do not like the smell of rotten food.我不喜欢腐坏食物的味道 You know how sometimes a container of food有时我们碰巧把一盒食物 can get pushed to the back of the refrigerator放在冰箱靠里面的位置 accidentally and then after a few weeks几星期之后 when you open it it just has a horrible smell.当你打开它 那味道很难闻 Well that would be a good situation to say,这种情况下就可以说 “Ah, it grosses me out.“啊 这东西令我作呕” “This food grosses me out.”“这个吃的恶心到我了” It is a horrible smell when food gets pushed当食物放到冰箱的里面 to the back of the refrigerator and I forget about it而我又忘了它 最后烂掉的时候 and it goes bad or it becomes rotten.闻起来就很恶心 The worst smell for me would be rotten fish.对于我来说 最难闻的是腐烂的鱼 I really do not like the smell of rotten fish.我真的特别讨厌烂鱼味儿 It grosses me out a lot.它真的让我觉得特别恶心 So, it grosses me out, means it’s disgusting.那么“it grosses me out”的意思是它很恶心 We have another phrase “It turns my stomach.”还有另一种短语“It turns my stomach” So sometimes when you smell something really bad有时你感到某个东西很难闻 you could say, “It turns my stomach.”你可以说“It turns my stomach” It smells so bad that your stomach,它难闻到让你反胃 you almost have this feeling like you are going to throw up.感觉快要吐了 The English phrase “to throw up”英语短语“to throw up” is the same phrase as “to vomit.”和“to vomit”意思一样 So sometimes when you have something that grosses you out有时有东西会“grosses you out” it sometimes turns your stomach有时“turns your stomach” and it almost causes you to throw up.甚至让你“throw up” So, hopefully you don’t have bad food in your fridge.希望你的冰箱里没有坏掉的食物 Hopefully you don’t have anything rotten希望在你冰箱靠里面的位置 in the back of your fridge没有腐烂掉的食物 but I think you should all go check right now just in case.但我觉得你们现在都应该去检查一下以防万一 Anyways, Bob the Canadian here总之 我是加拿大人Bob and you’re learning English with me every day.每天和我学英语 I hope you’re having a good Friday希望你有一个美好的星期五 and I hope you have a great weekend.祝你周末愉快

  • 2021-08-24IT/’S AWFULLY GOOD和IT/’S OUT OF THIS WORLD是什么意思?So in English, if we’re talking about something在英语中如果我们谈论某些事情 and we say that it’s awfully good,并说 “It’s awfully good.” it sounds like we’re saying it’s bad,听起来似乎是在说这件事很糟糕 because it looks like it has the word awful in it,因为这句有一个“awful” but this actually means that it’s really good.但其实 这句话的意思是它很棒 So let’s say you’re eating some ice cream假设你正在吃冰淇淋 and it’s really tasty, some chocolate ice cream,它非常好吃 是某种巧克力味的冰激凌 maybe with some whipped cream on top, and it’s delicious.也许上面有一些搅打奶油 非常美味 You could say to someone, “This ice cream is awfully good.”你可以对某人说“This ice cream is awfully good.” So again, if you say something is awfully good,再说一次 如果你说“somethig is awfully good.” it means that it’s really good.意思是它非常好 It means that you really, really like it.意思是你真的 真的喜欢它 I think that when I watch different YouTube videos,当我在观看各种YouTube视频时 I think to myself我会自言自语 some YouTubers are awfully good at what they do.“一些Up主很擅长做这些啊” So again, this would mean that they are good at it.再说一次 这句意思说他们很擅长这件事 It wouldn’t mean that they are bad at it.而不是说他们不擅长 If you wanted to say someone was bad at something,如果你想说某人不擅长某事 you would say they are awful at it.你可以说 “They are awful at it.” Sounds kinda funny to say someone’s awfully good,说某人“awfully good” 来表达很擅长 to mean that they’re good at it,而“awful”是指他们不擅长 and awful to mean that they’re not good at it,这还挺有趣的 but that’s just the way English is.但这就是英语的表达方式 Hey, we have another phrase that we use嘿 我们还有一个常用的短语 when we wanna say that something is really, really good,当我们想说某个东西非常好时 and that’s it’s out of this world.可以说“It‘s out of this world.” So again, you could be eating some really yummy ice cream再次假设你在吃某个非常美味的冰淇淋 and you could say to the people you are with,你可以对身边的人说 “This ice cream is out of this world.“This ice cream is out of this world.” “It’s out of this world.”“It’s out of this world.” So again, that would mean that the ice cream它表达的意思同样是说这个冰淇淋 is extremely good.非常不错 It would mean that it is really tasty,意思是它真的很好吃 that it is delicious, and that you are really enjoying it.它很美味 你真的喜欢吃 So again, if you say something is awfully good,再来 如果你说“Something is awfully good.” or if you say something is out of this world,或“Something is out of this world.” both English phrases mean that that thing is really, really good.这两个英语短语都指的是某事物非常好 Anyways, Bob the Canadian here,好了 这里是加拿大人Bob and you’re learning English with me every day.每天和我一起学习英语 and I hope you’re having a good day.我希望你拥有美好的一天
  • 2021-08-24CREATE A BUZZ是什么意思?So in English, the phrase to create a buzz在英语中“to create a buzz”这个短语 means to get people excited about something意思是让人们对某事感到兴奋 or to get people talking about something.或让人们谈论某事 So, I usually try to create a buzz 我经常会为每周二YouTube上我发布的视频 around my videos on YouTube that come out every Tuesday.努力制造话题引起讨论 So when I put a new video up on YouTube,因此每当我在YouTube上更新一个视频后 I usually try to create a buzz我常在我其他所有的社交平台告诉大家 by telling everyone on all of my other social media platforms我上传了一个新视频 that there’s a new video up来努力制造话题 because I like it when people watch the video,因为我喜欢大家看我的视频 I like it when people tell other people about the video喜欢大家把我的视频分享给其他人 and I like it when people are just having conversations that而且喜欢人们聊天时说起 hey, Bob the Canadian has a new video up.嘿 加拿大人Bob上传了新视频 So I’m often trying to create a buzz.所以 我总是努力去制造话题 They also do this when musicians put out a new album or a new song.音乐人发表新专辑或新单曲时也会这样做 They will often try to create a buzz around the song,他们经常会为新歌努力制造话题 so that a lot of people know about it这样就有很多人知道新歌发布了 and so a lot of people are talking about it.于是大家就会开始谈论新歌 So, hey, if you are doing something cool所以 如果你在做很酷的事 I hope you can create a buzz about it.我希望你能为之制造话题 Hey, speaking of buzzing, 说到“buzzing” you know, the kind of animal that buzzes or the kind of insect that buzzes is a bee.有种会“buzz”的动物 或者说是昆虫 就是蜜蜂 Is a bee an insect? I’m actually not 100% sure.蜜蜂算昆虫吗?我其实不是特别确定 But when you are busy as a bee,当你“as busy as a bee”时 it means that you are working really, really hard.这表示你工作非常非常努力 So I thought I would teach you this phrase as well我觉得我要把这个短语也教给你们 because we were just talking about buzz and creating a buzz因为我们刚说到了“buzz”和“creating a buzz” and bees are the animal that buzzes.而蜜蜂就是那种会发出嗡嗡声的动物 So hopefully when you are at work, you are busy as a bee.所以希望你工作时 忙得团团转 I’m sure if you are busy as a bee,我相信如果你忙得团团转 your boss is probably really, really happy with you.老板会对你非常非常满意 Anyways, Bob the Canadian here.话不多说 我是加拿大人Bob You’re learning English with me.你在跟我一起学英语 I hope you’re having a good day.祝你有愉快的一天
  • 2021-08-24(to be) watered-down是什么意思?
